Mission Treatment Services of Escondido Review

Operating under the Acadia Healthcare umbrella, Mission Treatment Services of Escondido is part of a large network of outpatient care facilities throughout the US. It offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for adults struggling with opioid use disorders. Medical interventions at this location include methadone and Suboxone, which it provides in conjunction with individual and group therapy.

Treatment and Staff

As with the other facilities associated with Acadia that offer this form of treatment, incoming clients have to be at least 18 years old, have a valid ID, and be in withdrawal for 20 to 24 hours at the time of admission. The only time this rule does not apply is for clients who are pregnant, as going into withdrawal in that state is potentially very dangerous.

There is a full medical and psychological exam during the intake process. Clients can expect an individualized plan at the end of their assessment, however, they have to come back the next day for their medications. The clinic is open from 5:30 am to 2 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; Wednesday from 5:30 am to noon; and weekends from 7 to 10 am, for both intake and receiving medications.

Every person has a different treatment plan and the medications are prescribed according to their needs. Clients can expect a higher dose at the beginning of treatment and eventually start to wean themselves off the medications. There are instances where clients are not responding to their initial medication, so they switch to a different option.

The facility schedules individual therapy according to need. Typically, clients meet with their assigned counselor about once per week. During these sessions they discuss their experiences with the medications, and any accomplishments or issues they face without using opioids. Group therapy is available once per week per client, and on a flexible schedule. Group sessions often covers topics like relapse prevention, how to set healthy boundaries, improving communication, and how to identify and avoid triggers.

The program at this facility is not based on the 12 steps, but the staff still encourages clients to attend AA/NA meetings. In addition to NA, they supply recommendations to community SMART Recovery and Celebrate Recovery meetings.

The staff includes medical doctors and nurses, and an LPC who specializes in addiction.

In Summary

The programming here helps men and women to establish a solid foundation of recovery along with a support system. Clients attend their meetings and receive medication on a set schedule that helps them acclimate to their new way of life as a sober person.
