Farnum Center Transitional Living Review
Located about an hour’s drive north of Boston in the city of Manchester, New Hampshire, Farnum Center is a non-profit treatment organization. It offers a continuum of care that includes transitional living for women in the beginning stages of their recovery. The home is a safe and structured environment for clients attending outpatient programs at Farnum. It’s worth mentioning, 12-step is an integral aspect of the transitional living experience here. While residents are welcome to stay as long as one year, most women stay in the facility between one and six months.
Accommodations and Amenities
The accommodations are a nice, three-bedroom, two-bathroom family-style home. Because there are only seven residents at a time, the clients enjoy an intimate atmosphere that provides both a tight-knit peer community and the privacy necessary to focus on recovery.
Residents do not need to pay for food but they are responsible for the shopping and food preparation.
The home is located across the street from the Farnum Center and within walking distance to shopping, job opportunities and public transportation. Residents also enjoy access to the local YMCA. The home is supervised around-the-clock.
Rules And Regulations
Above all, this program seeks to support and prepare residents for their transition back into regular life. As a result, most residents continue to work through aspects of the individualized program outlined in their original assessment. Women work closely with a case manager to design the best possible continued support plan. The facility also offers resilience training that focuses on personal responsibility and positive thinking.
They require the women to attend regular 12-step support meetings, as well as in-house meetings that cover the three principles of mind-consciousness-thought. Residents must also obey nightly curfews and pass regular drug testing that the in-house team administers. In addition, there are career skills trainings like resume-writing and interviewing, as well as financial assistance. The staff encourages residents are to obtain employment, volunteer, or go to school.
In Summary
Farnum Center offers comprehensive aftercare for its inpatient program, and housing for its OP clients, through the gender-specific, substance-free living. The facility fosters a supportive environment in addition to continued guidance and opportunities for personal development. Women learn how to live a fulfilling, enjoyable sober life.
