Accommodations and Amenities
Sober Woman Recovery offers a family atmosphere where residents are supported and empowered. The facility has two upscale homes that are both within walking distance to public transportation. “Ross’s House” is a two-story family home with five bedrooms and two bathrooms. At well over 2,000 square feet, the house offers a spacious floor plan, lots of natural light, nice decor and common areas with comfortable furnishings and a flatscreen TV. Residents have the option of either sharing a bedroom or staying in a single room for an extra $15 a week.
Located just a short walk away, “Gloria’s House” is a 3,200 square foot three-story home with five bedrooms and three bathrooms. Both homes offer free WiFi and the use of a washer and dryer. Residents are responsible for basic necessities such as towels, bathroom items and food. The staff encourages clients to prepare and eat meals together.
Rules and Regulations
Clients first go through an intake interview over the phone that includes a personal medical history and an account of alcohol and substance use. Sober Woman Recovery requires that all residents be sober before moving into one of their homes. A one-week security deposit is also required during move-in.
Sober Woman Recovery believes in the importance of both freedom and structure. As such, residents must follow the rules but gain more flexibility the longer they stay. The facility administers regular drug and alcohol screenings that all residents must pass. During the first month, client must attend a local 12-step support meeting every day. Once residents have been there for a month, the requirement goes down to four per week. Also, these individuals have a later curfew on Saturdays than the newer residents.
All clients must attend a weekly meeting to discuss the week as well as house business. In addition, Sober Woman Recovery employs one live-in house manager for each house, and expects residents to divide all housework equally. Mothers can have their children in the house one night a week.
Extras
Sober Woman Recovery works in affiliation with A New Beginning Recovery Houses, a network of sober living homes for men in New Haven, Connecticut.
