Turning Point of Arnold Review

Located in the quiet mountain town of Arnold, California, Turning Point of Arnold provides adult men and women with comprehensive residential addiction treatment. It also maintains a transitional living program. The transitional living track is for graduates of the inpatient program. It offers a safe and supportive home during the initial stages of recovery. Clients work on personal skills while stepping back into the workforce and attending 12-step meetings. Sober husband and wife team Larry and Nicole Collum operate Turning Point of Arnold. They strive to give clients a leg up as they navigate life in sobriety.

Accommodations and Amenities

The cozy transitional housing facility sits in a residential neighborhood in Arnold that is close to grocery stores and work opportunities. Clients share bedrooms and are responsible for completing their assigned chores around the house. The house manager checks in on a daily basis to make sure the household is operating smoothly.

The living room, kitchen and dining room are shared amongst the roommates. The TV is connected to cable and there is Wifi in the house. In this stage of the program clients acquire and make their own meals. They also can use their cell phones and vehicles.

Rules and Regulations

The transitional program at Turning Point allows for clients to try out their newly acquired life skills that they picked up while in the inpatient level of treatment. This program, which is referred to as Crossroads, offers a work readiness program that is extensive. This entails interview and resume building skills (conducted within a professional atmosphere), money management, job ethics, and actual job training skills for specific vocations. Clients also work with the counselors to establish the kind of field they would like to work in, and are assisted in finding a suitable job.

During this stage clients continue to attend AA/NA meetings during the week and work with a sponsor. There are also options to go to an outpatient program, which the team can coordinate. Weekly house meeting attendance is mandatory, and clients slowly begin to acclimate themselves into the community by working locally, attending school or volunteering.

There may be drug screenings that clients have to submit to. Throughout the program clients work on their self care, have ample opportunities to exercise, go on nature walks and hikes, and have time to reconnect with family members.

In Summary

Turning Point of Arnold’s transitional living program truly offers the clients the space to put into motion their new found skills that they acquired in the residential program. They do have structure, but they are also allowed a great deal of space to explore themselves and what they are capable of. Similar to the residential program, Turning Point of Arnold’s transitional program is caring, comprehensive and life changing.
