Priory Woodland View Review
Priory Hospital’s Woodland View is a gender-specific inpatient treatment program in the UK. This facility treats men with complex mental illness who are working towards independent living. The program uses a medical model and collaborative approach. Woodland View customizes treatment to be outcome-focused, therefore each client’s personal success is at the forefront.
Accommodations and Food
Woodland View has 31 beds spread over three wards. These wards, Elkin, Arley and Millison, all have private bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Residences are separate from the main treatment building.
The units are all very spacious and comfortable. Clients relax in their communal lounges and watch TV or read on the comfortable couches. Woodland View’s campus includes a state of the art gym, gardens, horticultural areas and a woodworking shop.
The main building is where the dining room, kitchen, multi-faith room and computer room is situated. Staff and clients use the kitchen. Part of treatment is teaching clients life skills, including cooking. As a result, staff encourages clients to prepare meals for themselves and others with groceries that the facility provides.
Treatment and Staff
Woodland View is a locked facility with step-down services. The Elkin and Arley ward focus on medical needs, individual assessments and relapse prevention. Millison is considered the training ground for independent living, so clients in this level of treatment engage frequently in the community and are beginning their transition.
There are daily occupational therapy activities, group sessions, and life skills. Woodland View has a strong foundation in the faith based culture. During every phase of treatment clients work closely with the team on their program plans and goals.
However, the protocols at Woodland View are very flexible and accommodate each client’s needs. There is a focus on identifying triggers and coping skills. Trauma-informed care is a common method during individual and group therapy. Clinicians also utilize therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Finally, clients with a history of substance abuse attend addiction education classes and go to 12-step meetings.
Staff consists of nurses, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and consulting psychiatrists for medication management.
In Summary
Priory’s Woodland View uses a positive, strengths based approach. Consequently, clients experience confidence in themselves as they acclimate to their communities. Above all, the thorough programs fully engage each client’s interests and sets them up for continued success once they leave the facility.
