Priory The Anchor Review
The Anchor is a Priory Group eating disorder treatment facility for men and women in Stroud. It’s a step-down facility that encourages independence. Treatment is individualized and is for clients with a variety of eating disorders and co-occurring disorders. Throughout treatment, clients work closely with staff on their transition back into their communities.
Accommodations and Food
Clients live in a brand new, home-like facility with three beds. Clients have private bedrooms that are comfortably furnished, and an en suite bathroom. There are common areas within the home, like a living room with TV, dining room and kitchen. The backyard has a garden and outdoor seating.
Because the main focus of this program is for clients to learn how to live on their own, they go grocery shopping and prepare their own meals. The staff guides all activities.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment takes place in the main building and not in the residential unit. Clients engage in the community daily by socializing, working, volunteering or attending classes. Though there are staff members on call around the clock, clients take most matters into their own hands.
Building life skills is a fundamental element to this program, as is occupational therapy. As a result, staff and clients work closely and have regular progress meetings. Individual therapy sessions take place every week. Clients also attend group therapy and have regular medical monitoring.
Treatment uses the Maudsley Model to treat anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. Other methods are Family Systems, CBT, DBT, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and process groups. There are also art therapy sessions and expressive art therapies.
Clients occasionally have their meals monitored. After a group meal, clients sit and talk about their experiences with a therapist. Consequently, clients analyze their self image and work on positive improvements. Medical interventions are applied so that clients can remain stabilized and physically able to maintain the program.
A multidisciplinary team delivers this bespoke program. They are nurses, psychiatrists, art therapists, dietitians, nutritionists, and qualified house managers.
Extras
Clients and their loved ones attend family therapy during the program.
In Summary
The Anchor through Priory is a program for clients who are ready to start their transition back into their hometowns and communities. It is a training ground for real life. Each client is given a great deal of trust and independence, and have high expectations for themselves. Above all, this program is ideal for clients who have a desire to get better and stay that way.
