Priory Ty Cwm Rhondda Review
Ty Cwm Rhondda is a low security inpatient facility for men in New South Wales. The program runs on 12-week cycles and addresses complex and severe mental health and behavioral issues. Participants can expect one on one interventions, group therapy, relapse prevention and substance abuse education.Ultimately, the goal for this program is for clients to learn how to live independently.
Accommodations and Food
The hospital has 20 beds divided into two wards on different floors. All clients sleep in their own private bedrooms that have en suite bathrooms and have the freedom to decorate their rooms as they see fit. Clients are responsible for keeping their rooms clean with the help of the housekeeping staff.
Communal areas on campus include a large dining room and cafeteria, gym, lounge and meeting rooms. The facility grounds hosts activities and recreational events for the clients as well.
Residents eat meals in the dining room three times a day. The kitchen staff designs the menus but give clients a few options per meal. There is also coffee and tea available every morning, and they set out snacks in between meal times.
Treatment and Staff
This program focuses on clients reaching their treatment goals and planning for their discharge date. At the end of the three month cycle if they are not ready to go home, clients can stay for another round of treatment. Throughout the program clients work on their socializing, independent living skills, and behavioral management.
There is a nursing staff that manages the care planning at every stage. Ty Cwm Rhondda uses a wide variety of treatment methods within the 12 weeks. There are several group sessions every day that offer insight to each client’s mental illness. In addition, these group meetings address substance abuse, anger management, stress, communication and self image.
Life skills training is a priority in this program. As a result, every day clients take time to focus on what they will need to know once they go home. This entails health and wellness classes, budgeting, and how to land a job. They receive assistance from outside, local agencies for things like job training, volunteering and continued education.
During both individual and group therapy, clinicians use evidence-based therapies. They are CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and psychodynamic approaches.
There are therapeutic and social activities every day at Ty Cwm Rhondda. These events are individualized, and before any participation every client is assessed for risk potential.
There is a dedicated nursing staff on hand 24 hours a day. Consulting psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers run various parts of the program.
Extras
Clients have recreational outings to the movies, shopping trips, museums and local parks. There are also group sports activities on campus and outside gyms and facilities that clients use every week.
