The Basics
Center for Discovery is a nationwide behavioral health organization with a variety of facilities located throughout California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, Washington and Oregon. In addition to its residential treatment programs, it also provides both Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for clients with substance abuse, eating disorders and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Before being placed in a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine which program would best suit their needs. Though detox services are not available, participants can get referrals to the appropriate facility if necessary before beginning treatment. PHP consists of eight hours a day of treatment, five days a week. Slightly less intensive are the IOP tracks, which meet 20 hours a week spread out between three to five days.
Though plans may vary somewhat, each includes both individual and group therapy implementing evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). While much of the programming focuses on eating disorders, trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis support for those dealing with addiction and related behavioral issues are also available. Medication management can be facilitated. Other methods worked into treatment include art therapy, mindfulness training, nutritional counseling, relapse prevention and body acceptance classes. Though 12-step philosophy may be supported for some clients, it is not strictly required.
The staff at Center for Discovery consists of RNs, RDs, psychologists, LMFTs, LCSWs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
In addition to the above (and depending on location), some Center for Discovery facilities offer equine therapy, gender-specific treatment and recreational groups. As mentioned, more intensive residential programs are also available. Those who complete primary care can continue to stepped down outpatient plans as a form of aftercare.
In Summary
In all, Center for Discovery is comprehensive, well reputed behavioral health network offering treatment throughout the United States. Programs come in outpatient, IOP and PHP intensities and feature evidence-based care as well as holistic treatment methods. Though the cost of each program depends on the strength of each client’s insurance, Center for Discovery remains a strong resource for the communities it serves.
