The Basics

Located in its namesake in the northern outskirts of San Deigo, Dana Point, California, Dana Point Recovery is a sober living facility for men with flexible lengths of stay. Its owner has over 10 years of sobriety and works extensively with clients one on one, to help them stay sober. The home is located just blocks away from the beach and many local businesses.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Dana Point Recovery home has a total of 12 beds available in shared rooms, namely one large master bedroom with five beds, a three-person room and two two-person rooms. Each bedroom comes with full or twin beds, HDTV with DVR, WiFi, dressers, bedside tables, shared closet space and carpeting. The home also comes equipped with shared living areas with cable TV, a spacious kitchen, five refrigerators, five bathrooms, laundry, a dining room area and an outdoor patio in the backyard with a barbecue area.

The house is also conveniently located two blocks from the ocean and one block from the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s also walking distance to  restaurants, grocery stores, AA meetings and local job opportunities. Throughout their stay, all clients are required to buy their own food and prepare their own meals.

Rules and Regulations

At Dana Point Recovery, all residents are expected to attend five 12-step meetings a week and submit to random urinalysis testing, approximately three times a week. As with most sober livings, all clients must work, volunteer, attend school or go to outpatient therapy during the day to remain active. The house also hosts weekly Big Book meetings on Tuesday that alumni are also welcome to attend. On Sunday, the entire house goes as a group to a speaker-oriented 12-step meeting off-site.

Days are strictly scheduled, with clients waking up at 8 am and going to bed by 10 pm on the weekdays and midnight on the weekends (though exceptions can be made sometimes depending on clients’ work schedules). All residents are also expected to complete basic house chores. Though visitors are allowed, visitation times are strictly supervised and limited to the main floor of the house, particularly for significant others. The home also has house managers who live on-site to keep track of residents’ activities and to offer support as necessary.

Extras

Dana Point Recovery also accepts clients on scholarship from local hospitals. Transportation services are often provided to local meetings and on-site parking is available for residents who bring their cars to the program.

In Summary

Overall, Dana Point Recovery provides a safe and secure environment for men in early recovery. All clients must follow strict daily schedules and remain active in recovery while submitting to regular and random drug testing. The program is highly 12-step based and emphasizes peer-based recovery. For those in the area, Dana Point Recovery is a structured resource in an ideal location that could be a great fit for the right candidate.
