The Basics
Oxford House Georgetown provides sober living in Georgetown, Delaware for adult men. Clients can expect to develop accountability and responsibility in a supportive, gender-specific environment.
Oxford House is a nationwide nonprofit organization with an expansive network of sober homes—each with autonomy and operating independently while also upholding Oxford House guidelines and traditions.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Georgetown house is located in a mixed industrial/residential neighborhood of the town center. The two-story traditional pillbox house has eight bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and eating area. The house sleeps nine men—seven in single-occupancy rooms and two in a double-occupancy room, each furnished with twin beds and dressers.
While basic cable and water and power are included, the house does not have Wi-Fi or laundry facilities. A laundromat is conveniently located across the street. Residents are responsible for their own food and personal items.
Rules and Regulations
To be accepted as a resident, applicants must go through a screening process by the house manager and be unanimously approved by all house members. All clients must be working full time, enrolled in school or volunteering in the community and they must have proof of income and their ability to pay rent. Residents are expected to respect an 11 pm curfew.
In accordance with Oxford House protocol, a house president is democratically elected for a six-month term and facilitates random urine tests, assigns weekly house chores and leads the mandatory house meeting on Sunday mornings. The house secretary (also elected) collects the rent money and pays the rent and all utilities.
Positive urine tests, violence and theft are grounds for immediate eviction. While clients are not required to attend AA/NA meetings, attendance is strongly encouraged. Clients suspected of substance abuse are required to attend 12-step meetings and must have attendance slips signed by the meeting secretary.
In Summary
The Georgetown house is a self-governing Oxford House for men who are new to recovery and require peer support. This affordable halfway house gives men the opportunity to develop an independent life free from drugs and alcohol.
