Ocean State Coalition of Recovery Houses (OSCRH) is a group of three dozen sober living facilities in Rhode Island that emphasizes peer support and stability. The homes are in Providence and Kent counties.

Rules and Regulations

There is a streamlined process to apply for OSCRH sober living. Applicants first fill out membership applications that a membership committee reviews and follows up by scheduling a walk-through of the facility within 30 days. Two current members of OSCRH lead the walk-through with the potential new resident. All houses are required to administer drug/alcohol screens at intake and on a regular basis thereafter.

The homes under the OSCRH umbrella include the following:

The Blessing Way offers reentry housing for men and women. Clients live in sober living homes for 90 days. There are two, four-bed houses, one for men and one for women, with 24/7 manager and mentor supervision. Clients double-up in rooms. Rent is $110 per week.

There are six Brisan House sober living homes, four of which are for men only, while two are for female residents. The male homes are located in Providence and the female homes are located in Cranston and Providence.

NRI Community Services runs five sober living homes for men only: Theodore “Teddy” Jackson House, Capitol Hill House, Fairmont House, Wilson Apartments and Mabel Anderson House.

Phoenix House New England owns and operates RICAODD’s (Rhode Island Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence) sober living homes, most of which are for men. The residences include Acceptance House for men in Cranston; Daylight House for men in Cranston; Alex’s Place for men in Pawtucket; Aquidneck House for men in Portsmouth; Baxter Houses 2 and 3 for men in Pawtucket. Baxter House 1 in Pawtucket is for married couples. In Providence, there is New Beginnings I and II for men; the Orchard for women; Walsh Manor for women and The Rogers Home for men.

Royal House is a sober living home for men only in Providence that has 13 private bedrooms and five bathrooms. Clients stay for a minimum of 30 days and a maximum of 90 days.

Sanctuary Recovery Residences includes eight sober living homes for men and women in Central Falls, Pawtucket and West Warwick. Rent is $125 a week for a double room and $150 a week for a private room. The Central Falls and Pawtucket homes are for men only; the West Warwick home is for women only and houses 10 residents.

So Many Blessings is a sober living home for men only, located in Providence.

In Summary

Although there are many residential options at OSCRH, there are universal standards for residents and staff, based on the rules and bylaws of the coalition. Living at an OSCRH facility is not for those who require 24 hour-a-day care, but for those who can use the experience to regain their independence and transition back to living on their own. OSCRH houses typically run between $125 and 150 a week typically, but potential clients should call to confirm the cost.
