The Basics
Originally named the Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP), Crossroads began as a non-profit sobriety support program in 1982. Today, the Crossroads program offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for the treatment of substance abuse in adolescents, young adults and their families out of three locations in Missouri.
Treatment and Staff
The Crossroads IOP accepts adolescents 13 to 17 years old or young adults ages 18-25. IOP runs between six and 14 weeks, depending on client’s progress, offers on-site 12-step meetings and group therapy and may continue for up to eight weeks of aftercare and rehab support group for up to two and a half years. It runs Mondays through Fridays from 1 to 5 pm. Client are expected to attend a minimum of two AA/NA meetings per week which take place in-house on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Client attend group according to their individualized schedule, take part in relapse prevention classes and meet with their assigned counselor once a week. Additional 12-step meetings for clients’ parents are held twice a week. For those who do not require such intensive treatment or who have already completed the IOP, Crossroads offers separate or bi-weekly individual counseling.
Teen support group as well as separate young adult support group sessions are offered at all three locations Mondays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoons at noon. Meeting and event times for parents’ support groups are held on Thursdays in St. Louis, Mondays in Kansas City and Tuesdays in Columbia starting at 7:30 pm and Saturdays at noon in all cities.
The Crossroads Program is staffed by CADCs, many of whom are recovering addicts who work 12 step programs. In addition to personal experience, staff members specialize in working with adolescents and young adult substance abusers.
Extras
Various sober social functions such as get-togethers, filed trips and movie screenings are organized to take place on Fridays and Saturdays around 7:30 pm and clients are to attend at least two of these events each week. Sober social activities are available for families to attend with clients every Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 PM, once again in all cities.
In Summary
At over three decades of operation, the Crossroads Program is quite well-established in offering the services it does. While it is obvious that Crossroads is not for teens and adolescent who are in need of residential level services it should definitely be considered for those looking for an IOP. Especially if they are supported by a family circle who wish to take an active part in their child’s recovery. Crossroads does accept some insurance and also offers a special cash pay price of $9,500 for six weeks of the IOP program.
