The Basics
Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa opened in 1976 to provide culturally-sensitive healthcare and supportive services to Native Americans. It has grown steadily over the decades and now occupies its own complex near Centennial Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma. IHCRC offers comprehensive medical services—including dental care and optometry—in addition to behavioral health services. In 1988, it began providing outpatient treatment for substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
Clients begin with an assessment which is available by walk-in appointments only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. After the assessment, each client is given a unique treatment plan that includes group therapy once a week and individual therapy as-needed. Groups are led by Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors, including LPCs, LADCs and LCSWs. Group therapy is CBT-based and groups have up to 12 participants.
Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive mental health counseling and medication management from therapists and doctors in IHCRC’s behavioral health department. IHCRC doesn’t require clients to attend 12-step meetings, but clients are encouraged to seek them out on their own and determine whether they are a good addition to their treatment plan.
Extras
IHCRC also offers therapy groups for anger management, depression and anxiety and tobacco cessation. It also provides comprehensive medical and mental health care, including lab and pharmacy services.
