The Basics
Since 1946, the Detroit-area Community Social Services of Wayne County has provided community services in southeast Michigan. Originally established as the Catholic Family Center, over the years CSSWC has diversified to include a wide range of programs including substance abuse treatment. Clients of all ages and religious preferences are accepted on an outpatient basis, with treatment tailored to each individual’s needs.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to enrollment, all clients must be assessed either over the phone or schedule an in-person appointment for a bio-psycho-social assessment. Once assessed, clients meet with a case manager to develop an individualized treatment plan. With treatment catered to meet the needs of both adults and adolescents, scheduling is flexible to accommodate school and work obligations. Clients with court and parole obligations are also accommodated and treatment plans are tailored to meet special legal requirements. All programming is focused on treating both the client and the family as a unit to ensure the home environment is supportive of recovery.
Clients typically come to the facility once or twice per week depending on their treatment plan. For two hours, clients attend group therapy or family therapy sessions. All groups focus on building life skills and redirecting harmful behavior. Groups are conducted by CADCs and counselors utilize CBT and DBT techniques as well as 12-step philosophies. Twelve step meetings are highly encouraged but if a client prefers other peer-support groups, counselors have resources for Celebrate Recovery and SMART Recovery meetings.
In addition to group therapy, clients may elect to schedule individual therapy with their primary counselor.
Extras
A family program is available through CSSWC that includes family therapy and psycho-education on a group level. Counselors support individuals and their families by providing education and knowledge of the recovery process. Additionally, CSSWC facilitates substance abuse prevention programs at local schools and colleges.
The facility also offers additional programs for domestic violence, child welfare, seniors and education programs, anger management as well as re-entry programs after incarceration. All programs are individualized and may be attended in conjunction with substance abuse treatment.
In Summary
The Community Social Services of Wayne County offers substance abuse and social services for adults and adolescents in southeast Michigan. Treatment focuses on family dynamics and providing families and clients with a road map to recovery. An educational family program is available as well as community resources that may be utilized in conjunction with traditional group and individual therapy. Overall, CSSWC strives to help develop a healthy home and healthy relationships for a lasting recovery.
