The Basics
Alliance Family Services Inc (AFS) is a state-funded agency with facilities in Idaho and Nevada. AFS offers chemical dependency treatment in Idaho at locations in Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Kellogg, Fernley, St. Marie’s, Moscow and Priest River. Nevada facilities are located in Fernley, Reno and Las Vegas. Treatment for chemical dependency is available at all the Nevada locations. Those facilities also have services for DWI/DUI offenders and court-mandated clients. Services include Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and outpatient treatment. Clinical staff offer clients therapeutic support with evidence-based practices and medication management. AFS also offers psychiatric services and counseling to adults, children and adolescents with mental health issues.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients undergo GAIN assessments and evaluations (for an additional cost of $70). Those who have already been assessed at a different facility can have their results transferred to an AFS facility for up to three months after the assessment. Counselors work with clients to develop individualized treatment plans which includes goals for therapy. The staff assess clients needs to determine if IOP or outpatient care would best suit them. A physician approves each client’s treatment plan, and therapists review clients plans every 120 days for revisions whenever necessary.
AFS’s IOP and outpatient programs differ in hours per week and frequency of contact for both individual and group therapy sessions. Groups are offered throughout the week with each session lasting 50 to 60 minutes whereas individual sessions each last an hour. Those in IOP must complete a minimum of three hours of therapy per week. Clients in outpatient attend at least one individual or group therapy session weekly.
Counselors help clients by teaching them ways to combat anxiety, stress, anger issues, mental health issues, grief and ADHD. Staff use also evidence-based practices like CBT and play therapy to address client needs. Physicians on staff supervise medication management for clients with co-occurring disorders. Though AFS offers evidence-based practices exclusively at its facilities, the staff strongly encourages 12-step involvement for clients outside of therapy as well.
Staff include CADCs, Master’s-level clinicians and staff members working to become certified clinicians. AFS has contracts with physicians and psychiatrists who offer medication management and evaluations while supervising all clinical staff.
Extras
In addition to the above, AFS also offers drug and alcohol classes, DUI evaluations, domestic violence evaluations and counseling for court-mandated clients.
AFS Alcohol and Drug Information School (ADIS) is also available to court-mandated clients. This program adheres to state regulations for alcohol and substance abuse classes. The course is an eight-hour class offered once a month.
In Summary
With 10 facilities between Idaho and Nevada, clients find continuity in the Alliance Family Services Inc’s basic yet comprehensive treatment. Overall, outpatient services are accessible and affordable to both self-referred and court-mandated clients.
