Yakima WashingtonThe Basics

Apple Valley Counseling Services offers outpatient substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents in Yakima, Washington. Open since 2004, AVCS has provided services to the surrounding communities in the Yakima Valley for over a decade. Located approximately 60 miles south of Mount Rainier and roughly two hours south east of Seattle, Yakima is best known for agriculture—specifically apple crops distributed world-wide.

In addition to offering an individualized and evidence-based outpatient treatment experience, AVCS offers specialized programming for DUI and deferred prosecution clients. With both basic outpatient care and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Apple Valley treats men, women and teens seeking a flexible and effective program of recovery.

Treatment and Staff

Apple Valley’s individualized treatment programming caters to each client’s lifestyle and schedule. There is no standard length of treatment as all recovery paths are unique and developed after the client is seen for a bio-psycho-social assessment. Following the intake process, clients are enrolled in either a basic outpatient track or the IOP.

There are no detox services available through AVCS, though references for services are available at the time of assessment. Dual diagnosis support is available, but if a client requires medication they are referred to a trusted resource.

All therapy utilizes Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques with the goal being clients becoming self-motivated in their recovery and solution-oriented. Clients may come into the facility multiple times per week for group therapy—typically small, with only five to 10 clients per group. Groups are held in the morning and early evenings to accommodate work schedules and family obligations. Individual therapy sessions are available as often as a client wishes.

Since each recovery path is unique, clients may attend the bulk of their weekly treatment all in one day or divide it up over the week, though DUI clients are required through the courts to attend six months of treatment. Deferred prosecution clients must attend services for two years total. Groups include psychoeducation and relapse prevention techniques.

Staff includes LCDCs. Clients in the domestic violence program receive treatment from psychologists and Doctorate-level mental health professionals.

Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings in the local community to build additional support networks. They are not required to seek sponsorship and work the twelve steps, but are encouraged to remain open-minded and willing to participate in AA/NA.

Extras

Aftercare services are available through AVCS on a case by case basis. Typically facilitated through individual therapy, clients meet with counselors to develop healthy relationships and safe environments to continue their recovery. Relapse prevention techniques are strengthened and clients are strongly urged to seek 12-step support if they have not already.

In addition to substance abuse treatment, AVCS offers a domestic violence program. Clients may be enrolled in both programs concurrently if they qualify and would benefit from the additional help.

In Summary

Apple Valley Counseling Services offers highly individualized treatment that utilizes MI and MET techniques to motivate clients on their road to sobriety. Also offering DUI and deferred prosecution services, clients may fulfill their court-mandated treatment obligations in a safe and healthy environment. Clients suffering from the traumatic effects of domestic abuse concurrently with addiction are given special consideration and care by qualified staff. With flexible scheduling and an adaptable treatment approach, clients may begin their recovery experience without having to compromise their work and family responsibilities.
