The Basics
The Alvarado Parkway Institute offers clients comprehensive behavioral health services including individualized programs, detox, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and outpatient treatment in La Mesa, California. Alvarado caters to adult men and women with addiction issues and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Alvarado is evidence-based and generally begins with a detox that lasts for three to five days. After detox, clients can enroll in outpatient treatment ranging from PHP, IOP or basic outpatient offerings.
PHP is the most intensive program available at the facility, consisting of five days a week of treatment, six hours each. Those in PHP have access to transportation to the facility daily and are served breakfast and lunch. Next in intensity is IOP, which meets three days a week for three hours at a time. The least intensive program is the outpatient track, which can be considered a continuing care program that requires clients to attend groups one to three times a week for three hours total. Though the amount of time each client spends in treatment varies by program, it is common for each track to last anywhere from eight to 12 weeks total. Clients can also step down between programs as necessary.
Treatment is individualized, though it consistently includes 12-step recovery, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), DBT, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Stages of Change, art and music therapy, recreational, movement therapy, mindfulness, meditation, relapse prevention, stress management, coping skills and job placement services. Clients with co-occurring conditions have access to medication management with their assigned psychiatrist as well. Clients are encouraged to attend outside AA/NA or SMART Recovery in less intensive programs like IOP or outpatient.
Staff members include caseworkers, LCSWs, LADCs, psychologists and psychiatrists.
Extras
Individualized family and aftercare programs are also available to all clients in the initial phases of treatments. Aftercare is free to everyone who completes a treatment program. Additionally, all programs through Alvarado are available in Spanish.
In Summary
The programs at Alvarado Parkway Institute offer clients a supportive net with a myriad of different treatment tracks. By providing a full spectrum of care including IOP and PHP as well as medical services and aftercare, clients gently and safely learn the necessary skills to maintain long-term sobriety.
