Tonkawa OklahomaThe Basics

Established in 1978, Alpha II is a residential substance abuse treatment facility for men situated on the Salt Fork Arkansas River in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Using evidence-based methods including CBT, individual and group therapies, Alpha II also implements a six-dimension approach to recovery.  Each client’s long-term recovery is further supported with transitional housing and a family program.

Food and Accommodations

Clients receive treatment in the same building where they are accommodated. The facility sleeps 30 men in dormitory-style quarters. Clients share simply decorated, double-occupancy bedrooms with single beds and communal YMCA style bathrooms. Treatment occurs in offices reserved for administration and counseling.

There is a dining hall where clients receive three standard American-fare meals a day prepared on-site. Other common areas include multiple living rooms with cable TVs, a pool table, free-weights, basketball and volleyball courts and the five-acre campus has ample outdoor space for walks and exercise.

Treatment and Staff

The treatment program at Alpha II follows a six-dimension approach to treatment; physical, psychological/emotional, spiritual, social, family and environmental/vocational. This multi-faceted structure allows for a well-rounded recovery foundation which focuses on each client’s individualized treatment plan and their specific needs.

Through individual therapy twice a week, daily group therapy and regularly scheduled family therapy, clients participate in a thorough treatment program which incorporates CBT methodology as well as experiential and Person Centered therapies. Group sessions focus on anger and stress management, self-esteem building, assertiveness training and cognitive restructuring. Alpha II also incorporates the 12 steps into treatment requiring clients to attend a minimum of one daily on-site meeting.

Alpha II also offers a unique family program in which the families of clients meet together for group sessions to learn about the nature of addiction as well as share experiences in a safe and informative environment. During these weekly 2-hour sessions, families watch educational videos, share questions and concerns, perform role-playing exercises with their loved ones to express their feelings as well as write letters to one another to be read while in treatment. The emphasis on family involvement allows all parties to feel supported as they recover and grow together.

The staff at Alpha II consists of LPCs, CADCs and a clinical psychologist.

Extras

In addition to residential treatment, Alpha II also offers a halfway house program for those in need of short-term housing as well as a more structured transitional living program. Referral services are also available for clients seeking additional care beyond those offered at Alpha II.

In Summary

Alpha II offers a comprehensive residential treatment program on a five acre campus in rural Oklahoma. Using an array of therapeutic techniques, Alpha II aims to treat the whole person—physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. With special focus on family involvement and vocational counseling, men are given a solid foundation for long-term recovery.
