Vanderbilt Behavioral Health Adult InpatientVanderbilt Behavioral Health Review

The esteemed Vanderbilt Behavioral Health, located in Nashville, Tennessee, offer a multifaceted mental health treatment program for all ages. The adult inpatient treatment regimen provides care for men and women dealing with mood and psychotic disorders. Both levels of treatment incorporate group and individual therapy, psychoeducation and various activities. Throughout their time in the program clients reside in a calming and supportive environment while learning about their disorders and how to manage them after they leave treatment.

Accommodations and Food

The adult residential wing of Vanderbilt has 64 beds throughout the facility. Clients sleep in semi private rooms that each have beds, small tables and closet space. While the residential quarters are in a hospital environment, they are still spacious and comfortable.

There are common areas throughout the facility that clients have access to. This includes a recreation center and cafeteria. An on-site staff prepares all meals.

Treatment and Staff

The adult treatment program caters to those who are 18 and older who struggle with a variety of mental health issues. The clients have individualized treatment plans that include an array of group therapy and psychoeducation sessions.

During the admission process, they place each client with a primary therapist who can directly address their needs. The main focus during this placement stage is to establish a treatment program that provides the highest level of care, while also allowing a certain amount of freedoms. There is staff on hand 24 hours a day to aid in any needs the client may have.

Clients in the psychotic disorders program have a six part treatment plan that includes psychoeducation, pharmacology, medication education, community goals, fitness and activities. The goals group is the first activity each day. This serves as a sounding board for clients to discuss their achievements and challenges in the program with the staff members. During this meeting clients are working on their communication skills and problem solving methods.

The educational elements of the program cover benefits and side effects of certain medications, why it is important to stick to the medication plan, dealing with trauma, abuse, grief and loss, and family dynamics.

The inpatient mood disorder track includes many of the same elements of treatment. The mood disorder program’s treatment focus is on adults dealing with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, phobias, personality and dissociative disorders.

The clinical team of the adult inpatient program is well versed in a number of treatment approaches and adapt their methods depending on the individual they are treating. Common modalities are CBT, EMDR, DBT, art and music therapy, expressive therapies and more. It is worth noting, medication management is a key element to treatment in both the mood and psychotic disorder programs.

The behavioral health team at Vanderbilt includes psychiatrists and psychiatric nursing staff, and clinicians that specialize in mood disorders, addiction and identifying a first episode of a psychiatric emergency.

Extras

Clients use the gym and pool daily to receive instruction on how to balance their physical and mental wellness.

In Summary

Vanderbilt’s adult behavioral health program is a full and comprehensive treatment experience. Treatment is a well thought out combination of education and therapy, all of which emphasizes the importance of identifying and managing emotions, and other symptoms in a mindful and balanced manner. Above all, they treat clients like individuals who receive proper attention from a caring and experienced staff.
