One Direction Arizona Review
One Direction Arizona offers transitional housing for men and women in Phoenix. It recognizes its facilities as phase one and two homes, as they are halfway and three quarters residences. One Direction operates several houses that are gender specific and co-ed. All clients must attend SMART Recovery regularly.
Accommodations and Amenities
Currently One Direction Arizona has six established sober living locations and one in the works. Most of the facilities are for women only. There is one facility for men and the other is mixed gender. The facilities are a combination of fourplexes, apartment style accommodations and spacious single family homes. Residences accommodate between eight and 14 clients per location, who sleep in double occupancy bedrooms, with the exception of the co-ed house, which offers a mother in law suite for one.
Amenities include free Wifi, cable and Netflix, large backyards, and grilling areas. A few of the locations also have a pool, and others have a washer and dryer. The residences are spacious, comfortable, and in safe neighborhoods.
Rules and Regulations
There are phase one and phase two housing options. Phase one requires a drug test to qualify for acceptance. It also has more restrictions in terms of curfew and responsibilities. Phase two requires that there be at least 30 days of sobriety under the client’s belt, and in some cases also has a fee to get in.
It’s worth noting, One Direction does not offer “program” based sober housing. As a result, it doesn’t require clients attend a certain amount of meetings within a set amount of time. Instead, it only mandates that residents attend the weekly SMART Recovery meeting on Sunday nights at one of the facilities. Otherwise, clients have a fair amount of freedom with the expectation that they will pay their fees on time and remain sober.
There is a 10 pm curfew that a house manager enforces. Upon arrival clients can expect drug screens, and One Direction reserves the right to ask the client at any time, for any reason, to submit a random UA. However, there will not be more than two requests per week.
Upon arrival clients have to disclose all of their medications. One Direction does not accept any narcotic painkillers or medical marijuana. It is open to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) like Suboxone.
This sober living does not allow smoking in or around the residences. There is also a “no negativity” rule within the program. Consequently, clients must be courteous to each other at all times.
The residences all have one manager per location on site 24 hours a day.
In Summary
One Direction Arizona is ideal for clients who have been sober for a while. It is structured but not over the top strict. Rather, it simply stipulates that clients have to stay sober and follow the rules, and if they don’t they have to leave. Above all, the aim is to foster a community that allows clients to demonstrate that they are capable of caring for themselves while still getting a bit of support.
