Nova Sober Living Review

Phoenix, Arizona’s Nova Sober Living is a women’s only recovery home. This program is for women who are new to recovery and need a structured and substance-free living environment. Nova requires clients participate in the 12-step community and follow a series of house rules in order to qualify. Above all, Nova Sober Living is dedicated to giving sober women a safe place to start their lives again.

Accommodations and Amenities

The Nova Sober Living facility is a multi living home with five bedrooms and two bathrooms. Clients share semi-private bedrooms that are furnished with full beds, a dresser and nightstand. Every bedroom also has a walk in closet. The rest of the fully furnished home includes several common spaces. The living room has a wraparound couch and a large, flat screen TV complete with cable. The house computer is connected to high speed internet, and clients are welcome to use the communal printer.

The full kitchen was recently remodeled and has granite countertops, new cabinets and is fully stocked with cookware. The laundry room has a washer and dryer, and the facility provides all cleaning supplies.

Clients receive extra bedding and towels. However, they are responsible for getting their own toiletries, clothes and providing food for themselves.

The spacious backyard has a covered patio with table and chairs, an orange tree and fire pit.

The home is within walking distance to a lot of local recovery meetings, and provides access to public transportation.

Rules and Regulations

New clients have to be sober when they arrive at the house and be able to pass a drug test immediately. They are held accountable for rent and fees. Perhaps most noteworthy, Nova expects all its residents to be actively working the 12 steps, attending meetings every day and working with a sponsor, who they talk to every day.

During the first two weeks new clients have an 8 pm curfew. From then on it is 11 pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends. After the first 30 days in the program clients can request an overnight stay, and a weekend pass after six months.

Within two weeks of moving in clients need to have a job and be working full time. They are also responsible for keeping the house clean and complete assigned chores.

Clients can bring their own car to the house, and are always in charge of getting their own transportation.

Men are never allowed on the property, and visitors have to be sober also. Random drug tests happen every week. Consequently, if a client fails, Nova immediately asks her to leave.

Finally, there is a house manager on site at all times.

In Summary

Nova Sober Living is a nurturing and safe environment for women in recovery. There is a community feel within the living space, which is validating and encouraging for the residents. Clients get the chance to take their time in the early stages of sobriety and be in an atmosphere of support and care.
