The Basics
Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Solutions Treatment Center offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, as well as gender-specific sober living programs. Treatment in IOP consists primarily of group sessions, though individual therapy and family therapy sessions are also available in certain circumstances.
Treatment and Staff
Solutions offers separate IOP tracks for adults and adolescents. Clients in both programs must complete a comprehensive assessment, which clinicians use to create individualized treatment plans. Referrals to outside facilities are made for those in need of medication management or detox.
The adult IOP ranges from four to 16 weeks and requires attendance five days a week. All clients attend group sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from either noon to 3 pm or 4 to 7 pm. On Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 pm, clients attend family group therapy sessions. Those interested in full day treatment can attend both three-hour sessions at no extra charge.
Group sessions aim to address the whole person through what Solutions calls The Solutions Method, which addresses 16 core themes. These include personal goals, self-destruction and escape, family relations, identity, relationships, boundaries, communication skills, grief and loss, life changes and transitions, work and finances, health and wellness, mind-body connection, shadow self, forgiveness and amends, self transformation and self appreciation and meaning and purpose. A different theme is explored every week.
During family treatment, each client’s loved ones are invited to participate in discussion-based therapy pertinent to the theme at hand for the week. The sessions also aim to educate families about the negative effects of drug and alcohol abuse while simultaneously offering a safe platform to discuss progress in treatment. Private family therapy sessions are available upon request.
The adolescent IOP is a 12-week program for teens between 14 and 17. Treatment consists of group therapy sessions that meet three times a week for three hours each. During these meetings, a licensed therapist covers topics including personal goals, communication skills, self esteem, positive relationships, health and wellness and relapse prevention. Individual and family therapy are also available, though only upon request or to those advised by an outside agency.
Staff consists of LPCs who use evidence-based techniques like CBT and DBT. STC also includes experiential therapy techniques like art and narrative therapy. Along with all the multi-modal therapies available, clients can also benefit from the healing services which include yoga, guided meditation, acupuncture and body work. All of these healing services are also available to clients in either of the IOP programs.
Extras
There is another treatment path available at STC called individual intensives. This prtocol is a three to 14 day program that consists of individual therapy, art therapy and psychoeducational sessions for six to eight hours a day. It is offered to individuals, couples and families looking for solution-based programs that teach how to deal with challenging life situations.
Gender-specific sober living programs are also available to those at STC. The program requires a minimum stay of four months but clients can choose to stay for up to a year. Clients are offered space in one of two spacious town homes, both located in peaceful neighborhoods. Both shared and private bedrooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If residents request a private bedroom, he or she must pay an extra $150. While there are no staff members living on-site at these homes, staff do come regularly to check on residents and make sure things are running smoothly.
An aftercare program is available to all who complete at least a three-month program, and comes at no extra charge. Aftercare meetings are held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 pm. A licensed therapist runs these group sessions, with a primary focus on relapse prevention.
In Summary
Solutions Treatment Center uses a holistic approach to treating substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Staff members focus on addressing the entire person through tailored programs that offers traditional and modern approaches to therapy. Though slightly more expensive than some outpatient options, Solutions’ comprehensive programs make it worth the price.
