Offering services that are more affordable than their counterparts in western countries, many of Thailand’s treatment centers provide a convenient and comfortable experience for clients. The country features a moderate to warm climate with many excellent locations. This set of Thailand rehab reviews can help you select the best facility for you or a loved one.

The Dawn Medical Rehab & Wellness Centre

The Dawn Rehab offers a complete rehab experience at an affordable price. Located alongside the Ping River in Chiang Mai province, it is easily accessible for all. Despite occupying a secluded natural location, The Dawn is located a mere 40 minutes’ drive from the city’s well-connected international airport.

Accommodation and Facilities

The Dawn is a smaller scale rehab, with 20 comfortable private rooms. As this highly regarded Thailand rehab resort is focused on holistic recovery and wellness, the center is equipped with a swimming pool, spa, and fitness facilities.

Treatment

The Dawn offers both addiction and mental health treatments. A range of comprehensive programs and methods are available, including a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and other effective approaches to treatment. The Dawn focuses on mindful counseling as well as holistic therapy in their healing and recovery process. Specialized treatments are also available for clients with trauma, PTSD, depression, or anxiety. The Dawn is the first centre in Asia to offer TMS therapy, which has been found to ease symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Team

The Dawn’s team is made up of leading local and international experts, including certified medical personnel, clinical psychologists, and counsellors. The Dawn also has on-site nutritionists and massage therapists, as well as boxing and fitness instructors.

Price

Standard inpatient treatment at The Dawn costs $12,000 for 28 days of onsite residential care, all inclusive. The Dawn has a pro rata refund policy if a client leaves within the first 7 days.

Siam Rehab

Located in the slow-paced province of Chiang Rai, Siam Rehab (formerly known as Serenity) is a good choice for those seeking a small, low cost, and tranquil facility. Although it is located in the countryside, this Thailand rehab is just 25 minutes away from Chiang Rai’s airport. The airport itself is smaller than some others in the country, and direct flights from major international cities may be difficult to find. Those coming from abroad will typically need to fly into Bangkok before taking a second connecting flight.

Team

The team at Siam Rehab, including the founder, are all recovering addicts and alcoholics themselves, and can understand what their clients are going though. This personal connection, combined with the certifications and professional experience of their therapists, allows this Thailand rehab to provide high quality addiction counseling. The Medical Director who specializes in addiction treatment leads the team.

Accommodation and Facilities

Siam Rehab is designed to remain small, accepting no more than 10 clients in primary care and 10 in secondary care at any one time. Yoga classes are offered, as well as a gym and pool, which patients have access to twice a week.

Treatment

Siam Rehab offers a standard 28-day primary program, with the option to move onto a second treatment phase which lasts four to eight weeks. Treatment is centered around CBT, and clients receive group therapy three times a day, along with three individual counseling sessions per week.

Price

A 28-day treatment at the Siam Rehab costs $5,900, inclusive of all treatments and activities, although prescriptions are excluded.

The Thamkrabok Monastery

This rehab located in Saraburi relies on Buddhist principles rather than western practices and will not be suitable for all. Indeed, many consider the Monastery to be one of the toughest rehabs in the world. Located a few hours from Bangkok, travelers will have to fly into the capital city first. From there, visitors will have to make their own way to the Monastery. The most convenient options include buses and trains from the city (expect at least a two-hour trip), or a taxi directly from the airport.

Accommodation and Facilities

This unique Thailand rehab is part of a larger temple complex built by monks, making it quite a different setting from the other, more comfortable rehabs found on this list. There are no single rooms; patients share a single dormitory without air-conditioning or hot water.

Treatment

The Thamkrabok Monastery tackles addiction and treatment through a detox process. Detox treatment is done through a secret herbal remedy that induces vomiting, purging toxins from the body. While unique, keep in mind this can be a very risky – and possible deadly – way to purge toxins from the body. After five days of initial treatment, the Buddhist approach takes a more central role, coming in the form of meditation practice. Unlike other rehabs in Thailand that focus on therapeutic practices, Thamkrabok offers no individual counseling or group sessions.

Price

What it lacks in comfort, the Thamkrabok Monastery makes up for in other ways. This Thailand rehab is cost-free, with the centre relying solely on donations.

Safehouse Rehab

Safehouse is a rehab centre located in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, east of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. Although Ban Bueng has everyday necessities within easy reach, the area is relatively quiet and in a slightly less scenic region of the country than some other rehab locations. International travelers will have to fly into Bangkok first, where transportation from the airport can be arranged with Safehouse to take you to the straight to the facility.

Team

The team at Safehouse is well-qualified, and experienced in working with a variety of drug addictions and treatment methods. The team is led by the treatment director, who is supported by a senior clinician/program manager, as well as focal counselors, group facilitators, and clinical support staff.

Accommodation and Facilities

Safehouse Rehab Centre is located within a gated community. Inside, patients live in air-conditioned individual apartments, comprised of a bedroom, living room, bathroom, balcony, and a kitchen. While patients have the option to cook, Safehouse also provides three healthy meals a day, specifically prepared with their clients’ nutritional needs in mind. Clients will also have access to a gym, pool, and badminton courts.

Treatment

A treatment program at Safehouse usually lasts from 30 to 60 days. However, extensions can be made if clients feel they need more time. Treatment at Safehouse is CBT based – in the form of ACT therapy – and also incorporates the 12-step approach. Clients will have at least three individual sessions a week, while taking part in group sessions three times a day. Other parts of the daily routine include therapeutic massages, guided mindfulness training, and free time for exercise and other activities. During the treatment program, patients can also expect excursions and written assignments.

Price

Treatment at Safehouse hosts $9,250 for the standard 30-day treatment program.

The River Rehab

The River is located along the banks of Chiang Mai’s Mae Ping River. At just half an hour from the international airport, The River offers convenient access.

Team

The team at The River is made up of experts with a breadth of experiences, letting them create comprehensive, multi-disciplined addiction treatment. The leadership team itself consists of addiction professionals, performance coaches, life transformation coaches, and experienced health professionals.

Accommodation and Facilities

All the rooms are designed to be simple and devoid of clutter, overlooking an attractive lawn that follows the riverbank. Alongside the lawn, patients can also find the pool and a shared dining area.

Treatment

The River’s original treatment program aims to combat addiction and trauma by taking the patients through ‘a journey of self-discovery’. Their signature 12-week treatment program uses a range of methods that combine physical training, nutrition, spiritual practice, and holistic wellness.

Price

The River’s 12-week signature program costs $36,000, which is inclusive of all treatments and medication required.

Inspire Rehab

Inspire is located in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok. Although a busy city by nature, Inspire is set in a quiet suburb that offers a convenient pace for those seeking a tranquil experience together with ease of transport.

Team

Certified professionals from different parts of the medical field make up the qualified team at Inspire. This includes LPCs, LCSWs, CADC, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, Master’s and PhD-level clinicians, along with personal trainers. While most meals are catered by a gourmet delivery service, Inspire also has in-house chefs.

Accommodation and Facilities

Inspire aims to be a personal experience, so they only host up to eight residents at any given time. Inspire is not a luxury getaway, but rather a comfortable residential home with large private bedrooms. The house has a common area with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and couches. Clients also have access to the athletic facilities, which include tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, and a basketball court.

Treatment

Prior to the start of the treatment, all clients receive an initial assessment and medical evaluation which will be used by staff to create a personalized plan for each person based on their needs. These plans involve both group and individual therapy. Evidence-based practices are also incorporated into every set of recovery plans; these may include CBT or DBT, combined with 12-step recovery principles and SMART Recovery where appropriate.

Price

Inspire charges $4,300 for their standard 28-day addiction program.
