Sefton Park Review
Choices Rehab Centres Sefton Park is a non 12-step based detox and residential treatment program in Somerset, UK. Men and women who are struggling with drugs and alcohol can expect individualized programming using evidence-based protocols within a therapeutic community setting. Programming also offers dual diagnosis support and a number of complementary therapies.
Accommodations and Food
The men and women clients sleep on different floors of the multi-story residential building. The women sleep on the top floor, and also have all their own bathrooms. This level is only accessible with a door code.
In total there are 28 beds, with a combination of single and shared occupancy rooms. Of the bedrooms eight of them are en suite, and 11 are shared with up to three clients.
Clients eat mostly catered meals in the shared dining room. Clients do learn how to cook in the program, and they bake fresh bread every day.
Treatment and Staff
The program is broken down into two stages at Sefton Park, both of which last around 12 weeks. During a typical week clients have over 20 group therapy sessions, three individual therapy sessions, and six to eight psychoeducational classes, workshops and lectures.
After an initial two hour assessment, incoming clients eat lunch with the current residents. At this point, new residents undergo a drug test. From there, they may go straight to detox or into the residential side of treatment.
The first four weeks clients get used to the structure and schedule of the program. Once they get their footing, or stabilize from detox, they begin their individualized treatment plan.
The groups focus on relapse prevention, anger management, self esteem, managing emotions and communication skills. Other activities in treatment include the Discovery Program. It encourages clients to take risks and support other clients, which in turn encourages confidence and team building. Prep4Life, another therapeutic, activity driven element to treatment, focuses on the transition back into the community through volunteerism, and college courses.
Treatment uses integrated and eclectic methods along with CBT approaches. Though Sefton Park is not a 12-step based facility, it does not discourage clients from seeking out a support community after they leave the program.
Extras
Exercise is a part of treatment. As a result, the facility provides memberships to the local gym and the occasional fitness trainer. Residents also have access to mountain bikes on site. They go on regular wilderness and adventure therapy outings.
There is a free family program that includes counseling on Saturdays at the facility.
Finally, the aftercare and resettlement program includes assistance with clients finding housing and job placement. There are also monthly individual or group therapy sessions on site, or over Skype.
In Summary
Choices Rehabs’ Sefton Park community uses a message of empowerment for all clients. The aim is to prepare them for returning to their homes with a solid foundation in recovery. The treatment protocols are well known and effective, and are complemented by holistic approaches. Above all, Sefton Park is a caring and warm environment for those who wish to learn how to live a life of recovery successfully.
