Priory The Willows Review
The Willows is a women’s only inpatient facility through Priory Hospitals in the UK. Clients stay in an intimate and calming therapeutic environment. Treatment is for women who are over the age of 18 struggling with mental health concerns, substance abuse and personality disorders. This program focuses on daily living skills so clients can, in turn care, care for themselves in order to live independently.
Accommodations and Food
Clients live in a six bedroom home-like facility in Nottinghamshire. The women have their own bedrooms and share bathrooms, a living room and computer room. The facility has Wifi and clients have access to the Internet. The communal lounge has a mounted TV, books, games and comfortable couches.
The campus is close to local shops and public transportation. The on-site garden is quiet and serene. Shared areas include classrooms, group therapy rooms, library and laundry facilities.
The residence has a fully stocked learning kitchen that clients use daily to prepare meals for themselves and others.
Treatment and Staff
Clients focus on relapse prevention throughout treatment. Group and individual therapy sessions address a series of common issues such as behavioral health, risky or dangerous behaviors, and the consequences of a legal offenses. Groups also cover anger management, understanding feelings and unwanted emotions, and trauma. There is a mindfulness group, substance abuse education and therapy, and a skill building group for aftercare planning.
Clinicians utilize evidence-based treatment approaches. The practices include DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), EMDR, and expressive arts therapy. Clients attend speciality groups for arson or violence related events weekly, in addition to the regular schedule of counseling and activities. Along with therapy, The Willows facilitates medication management through frequent sessions with a consulting psychiatrist.
The Willows expects clients to fully engage in their own treatment planning. As a result, every week they sit down with their primary therapists and go over their goals and achievements. Even after they leave the program, clients still have access to their counselors.
Life skills training sessions offer cooking classes, continued education, money management, vocational placement assistance and wellness planning. Because of the emphasis on learning to live independently and acquire solid life skills, The Willows encourages clients to head out into the community to volunteer, look for work, attend classes or socialize as often as possible.
There is a really small treatment team at this facility with a very low turnover rate. They are social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses and occupational therapists.
Extras
Treatment includes a whole person wellness team. Clients have regular access to general practitioners, dentists and other providers.

The goal at Priory’s The Willows is to empower clients to feel confident living on their own. As a result, every stage includes life skills and education that prepares them for life after treatment. There is daily support and encouragement every step of the way. Above all, the staff puts a lot of trust into each of the women in this program, and aims to boost their self esteem.
