The Basics
Mount Tom Center for Mental Health and Recovery is a licensed outpatient mental health and substance abuse program in Holyoke, Massachusetts. This facility operates under Behavioral Health Network, Inc., a non-profit behavioral health agency. Services such as drug evaluations, individual, family, couples and group therapy, psychiatry and substance abuse education are all available for children, adolescents and adults. Dual diagnosis support is also available using evidence-based therapies to treat clients.
Treatment and Staff
Mount Tom’s outpatient options are used as a step down from residential treatment as well as for those who want less intensive care allowing them to stay involved in their community and home life. Support for those with co-occurring disorders is available through psychiatric care. The program uses a mixture of the 12-steps and evidence-based therapies including CBT focusing on relapse prevention and life skills. While detox and more structured offerings such as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) are not available, referrals can be made when necessary.
Before enrolling, clients must undergo a bio-psycho-social evaluation which takes into consideration each individual’s mental, physical and emotional well being, their past usage and their treatment goals. Treatment methods include individual and group therapy as well as educational lectures. Clients may also schedule as many or as few individual sessions as they wish. Each one-on-one session runs for 45 to 60 minutes, giving clients plenty of time to delve into personal issues. Marriage and family therapy are also available when necessary. Group topics include introduction to the 12 steps, anger management, coping skills and communication.
Support for mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are also addressed. Clients are encouraged to attend off-site AA/NA meetings while in treatment, though this is not required. The length and intensity of each program depends on the the individual’s needs.
Staff consists of Master’s-level therapists and LADCs.
In Summary
Mount Tom Center for Mental Health and Recovery brings quality care to those suffering from substance abuse. Through evidence-based therapies, clients work towards a life of sobriety. While clients new to sobriety or with a history of relapse may benefit from the structure of an IOP, Mount Tom Center’s basic outpatient is a good fit for those seeking a flexible treatment program.
