Springfield MissouriThe Basics

Correction Services of Springfield, Missouri is an outpatient treatment facility for court-ordered clients receiving treatment for a DUI or substance abuse related arrest, though it also accepts voluntary clients for other programs. Opened in 1984, the facility offers individualized treatment plans that involve short-term individual or group therapy for adolescents and adults.

Treatment and Staff

The first step of treatment at Correction Services is to get an initial assessment, which helps place clients in a program involving either individual or group therapy, or a combination of both. If the client is referred to treatment because of a DUI they enter a program called SATOP (Substance Abuse Traffic Offender Program) which has three levels. These programs range in intensity and duration, though they generally consist of between 10 and 50 hours of counseling and classes.

The first level is the Offender Education Program and is the least intensive track, typically requiring 10 hours of treatment. The next level up is the Weekend Intervention Program. This takes place over a 48 hour span in an off-site location and is designed for those who have employment obligations but need to complete a certain number of court appointed hours. The final and most intensive level of the program is known as the Clinical Intervention Program, or CIP, which can take up to seven weeks to complete.

Most clients receive individual counseling though the facility, though SATOP consists mostly of group therapy. All outpatient programs generally meet once a week for about an hour and a half at a time (unless otherwise specified by the courts). Treatment uses evidence-based modalities like CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), though there are also classes offered covering relapse prevention and anger management. The facility also performs frequent randomized drug and alcohol testing in order to monitor each client’s progress.

In Summary

The majority of the classes and programs at Correction Services operate during weekend or evening hours, though most individual counseling happens during working hours. Though court ordered clients have mandatory hours they must complete, those who voluntarily participate do not have minimum commitment requirements. The staff at Correction Services are a combination of CADCs, caseworkers and CSWs.

Extras

There are aftercare options offered though the facility in the form of either individual or group therapy for as long as clients need at an additional fee. If a more intensive or longer-term treatment seems to be a better fit for the client, the facility offers outside referrals to other area facilities.

Other programs available address issues like marijuana addiction and a program called IMPACT which is for clients accused of shoplifting or theft. There’s also treatment available for those who have been convicted of selling alcohol to a minor and an alcohol diversion program geared toward clients under 18.

In Summary

Though the services provided by Correction Services are mostly geared for court-ordered clients, the facility does offer an impressive range of services, and not only for those who have been convicted of DUI. All treatment programs are affordable, individualized and include evidence-based treatment.
