The Basics
With two sober living houses in the Dallas area, Life Force Transitional Living Center for men provides a home-like environment to gradually introduce residents back into society. Founded in 2000, Life Force provides a half-way and three-quarter way house as well as a sober living home with structure and support for clients in recovery. Using individualized programs and a step-down system, the Life Force phases gradually increase independence and autonomy.
Accommodations and Amenities
Life Force has a maximum occupancy of eight men to allow for enough one-on-one attention. The half-way/three-quarter home is a two-story residence with over 3,000 square feet of space. There are four dual-occupancy bedrooms and four bathrooms. The fifth bedroom is occupied by the house manager. A large living room acts as space for group therapy three times per week. Residents can take advantage of an on-site laundry facility, cable TV, WiFi, a pool table for recreation and a kitchen where meals are prepared for residents. This residence is conveniently located close to meetings and many employment opportunities at the North Park mall.
The sober living residence is two-stories with five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. Accommodating a maximum of six clients, two of the bedrooms are master suites which are reserved for those in the final phase at Life Force. A private balcony and fireplace add to the overall charm and homey feel of the home. A large outdoor patio area, laundry room and a large living room with cable TV and WiFi are available. There is an on-site manager for support, but residents are expected to care for the house and themselves with little supervision.
Rules and Regulations
All clients are expected to stay for a minimum of 90 days at Life Force, allowing enough time to pass through all three phases. The Orientation Phase lasts for approximately 30 days and includes living at the half-way/three-quarter home with a buddy system. An introduction to other members of the house and the rules and expectations are provided. After the first 30 days, residents progress to the Integration Phase where honesty is expected and relationships built between a 12-step sponsor and the counselors. Finding a job or volunteer opportunities are expected during this phase
After 60 days or more comes the Independence Phase, during which clients is moved into the sober living home where they have less supervision and more accountability as the main component. Residents are expected to manage their own finances and continue attending 12-step meetings.
Life Force bases their residency program on the 12-step recovery model and residents are expected to attend at least four meetings per week and seek sponsorship. In addition to meetings, each resident must attend three group therapy sessions per week with a Life Force counselor where they learn about relapse prevention, independent living, money management and social skills. House management help residents with their bank accounts, with money distributed to them as appropriate.
To ensure sobriety, individuals are submitted to random drug screenings and breathalyzer tests. In the event of relapse, clients are removed from the property and referred to more intensive treatment.
Residents are expected to provide their own toiletries and electronics though towels, bed sheets, blankets and pillows can be provided by Life Force when necessary. Outside guests are not permitted and romantic relationships are especially discouraged. Overnight passes are permitted pending management approval but overnight guests are not allowed. Curfew on Sunday through Thursday is 11 pm and by midnight on Friday and Saturday for those in the first two phases. Final phase residents are able to come and go as they please as long as they are quiet when they return, out of respect for other house members.
Extras
Life Force maintains connections with faith-based recovery services and if residents are interested, a discipleship through local church groups is available to introduce them to the spiritual aspect of recovery.
In Summary
With many opportunities for growth and learning, Life Force offers access to therapeutic groups and a 12-step based model for success. The large living spaces combined with a multiphase approach for adjusting back into the community, residents can reintegrate with confidence and clarity. Surrounded by the strong recovery community of Dallas, the men at Life Force are guided towards living a meaningful life amongst friends and family.
