The Basics

Providing substance abuse treatment for those in need since 1896, Volunteers of America Los Angeles (VOALA) is an outpatient program in Downey, California. As a non-profit human services organization, Volunteers of Los Angeles aims to serve the needy, helping families get stronger and promote community building.

VOALA Recovery Services also facilitates Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs, Inc. Volunteers of America Los Angeles’ outpatient treatment employs the 12-step framework as part of its treatment approach, but has a main focus on traditional therapy.

Treatment and Staff

The Volunteers outpatient program is for both men and women who have already completed inpatient treatment or simply do not require an intensive residential program. Treatment begins with an assessment to determine their necessary level of care. Clients then proceed into an individualized schedule of individual and group therapy, treatment planning and case management.

Typically, clients come in for group two to four times a week, depending on need, and have an individual session once a week. All clients also undergo weekly urinalysis screenings to ensure ongoing sobriety. The total length of the program is six months and referrals to higher intensity treatment options and mental health therapy are given based on need.

Staff consists of Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs).

Extras

The Southern California Alcohol and Drug Program offers bilingual services in Spanish and referrals to outside organizations and professionals to meet the mental health, medical and social assistance needs of clients.
