The Basics
Napa County Health and Human Services offers outpatient, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and additional individual counseling for adults based on the 12 steps. In California’s bucolic Wine Country, those seeking help for addiction can receive treatment in a judgment-free atmosphere.
Treatment and Staff
After the client goes through initial intake with an addiction counselor, a treatment plan is developed to fit the client’s schedule. Morning and evening programs available and consist of group therapy sessions three to four times a week for about an hour and a half at a time. These sessions never have more than 10 clients at a time. When there are enough men or women to justify doing so, groups are also segregated by gender. Group sessions cover working the steps and relapse prevention.
Treatment through IOP is based mostly on the 12-step model of recovery, with all clients required to attend at least three outside AA or NA meetings a week and get them signed by a supervisor. The program is designed to be longer-term, with clients staying between three and six months on average.
If a client needs additional or more intensive services, individual therapy and programs for co-occurring disorders are also available through Napa County Health Services. Both of these require a separate intake and assessment meeting. If a client does opt for these additional therapies, evidence-based practices are often used in one-on-one sessions. This includes CBT and DBT, as well as treatment based on the Matrix Model and Stages of Change.
All programs are overseen and operated by county caseworkers and CADCs.
Extras
The treatment programs are available in Spanish and English. The county also offers a family program one night a week during the client’s treatment depending on the individual counselors schedule.
In Summary
Napa County Health and Human Services offers solid outpatient treatment options for residents of the Napa Valley. They keep the treatment experience personal and individualized, increasing the client’s chance for long-term recovery success.
