The Basics
The behavioral health network Sunspire Health is headquartered in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, and currently operates licensed residential treatment centers in California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, South Carolina and Texas. In November 2015, Sunspire Health acquired a new Texas location in the Dallas suburb of Princeton, Texas. The facility was previously operated by the Caron Foundation.
Sunspire Health: Texas provides a continuum of care that includes detox, residential treatment and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). Programs also incorporate dual diagnosis support and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).
Accommodations and Food
Located an hour outside of Dallas, in the small town of Princeton, the Sunspire building is a 28,000 square foot co-ed clinical facility that sits on 43 acres of land. The exterior looks like a Spanish adobe fort and the newly-updated bedrooms are decorated southwest-style—each with two full-size beds and its own bathroom. Clients have use of a nightstand, dresser and storage pace for personal items. There are large group meeting rooms, comfy lounges and a wrap-around covered patio with lounge chairs offering a view of the expansive acreage.
Clients eat meals together in the dining room, which resembles a sunny cafeteria with large windows. There is a specialized dietary team that advises clients in an effort to help them create healthy eating habits; fresh fruit and vegetables are always available and accommodations can be made for vegetarians, vegans and those allergic to gluten.
Treatment and Staff
The residential treatment program at Sunspire Texas is a standard 30 days. Accommodations can be made for those who need to stay longer, depending on the client’s individualized treatment plan. While some Sunspire facilities don’t incorporate the 12-step approach to treatment, this particular facility does—using a combination of the principles of AA/NA, evidence-based therapies, educational lectures and recreational activities. Treatment begins with an assessment, followed by on-site detox for those who need it. Clients typically remain in this phase between four and seven days, after which they transition to the residential program and a regular treatment schedule.
All residents participate in daily group therapy and educational sessions. Individual therapy appointments typically happen twice a week. Group discussions focus on grief and loss, resolving trauma, anger management, coping skills and relapse prevention. Lectures educate clients about the physical impact of addiction and the cycle of addictive behavior. Counselors who facilitate curricula are trained in CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
The treatment team includes Board Certified psychiatrists, nurses and doctoral and Master’s-level clinicians with significant experience in addiction and mental health treatment. There are also fitness coaches, techs and a nutritionist on staff.
Extras
Guests enjoy access to an on-site fitness center as well as a 14,000 square foot gym for volleyball and basketball games. There is also an outdoor pool that is used for relaxation and water aerobics. On-site yoga and exercise classes are also included in the residential treatment experience.
In Summary
Sunspire Health’s newly-acquired Texas location continues to serve the Dallas metro area with addiction treatment that incorporates evidence-based treatment and the 12-step approach. As part of the larger Sunspire organization, this facility offers a solid treatment experience with qualified professionals and a full continuum of care.
