The Basics
Perry Behavioral Health Choices has been operating for over 20 years in the quaint town of New Lexington, Ohio, with funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Its Stanton Villa location hosts a six-week inpatient treatment program that is solely for women suffering from substance abuse. Preference is given to female residents of the surrounding areas. Perry also offers an array of outpatient services including assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, urinalysis, case management and prevention.
Accommodations and Food
Stanton Villa accommodates up to 10 women in two adjacent houses. There are double or triple rooms, all with twin beds, and one single room. Both houses have communal rooms with TVs for watching videos that are part of the program. No other TV viewing is allowed. Residents have access to an exercise room with minimal equipment.
Three hot meals, served family-style, are provided daily for residents. A dietitian plans meals and residents are responsible for grocery shopping and cooking together on a rotating basis.
Treatment and Staff
Perry has no medical doctor on staff so residents must be drug- and alcohol-free before entering the program. There is a nurse on staff to monitor medication and any routine medical issues the residents may encounter. On-site detox and support for co-occurring disorders are not provided.
Days start at 7 am with meds and breakfast, followed by group meditation and exercise. After this morning routine, the residents go to the structured programs, consisting of daily individual therapy, group therapy and educational classes with small breaks throughout the day and longer breaks for meals. After dinner, residents are transported to 12-step meetings, either AA or NA, seven days a week.
Phones, computers and any electronic devices are not allowed. After seven days, residents are able to make phone calls and/or have visits on Sundays, provided they have been participating in program and following the rules. Smoking is allowed outside in a rear area.
Staff members are mostly female and consist of one registered nurse, Master’s-level social workers, LCDCs and CADCs.
Extras
Residents of Stanton Villa are able to participate in Perry’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) after their residential treatment. IOP clients live at home and transport themselves to Stanton Villa Monday to Friday in the early morning and stay for structured programming until 1 pm. Duration of this program is based on individual need.
In Summary
Perry’s Stanton Villa residential treatment program is a good option for women who require a large amount of structure in their early recovery. Residents’ time is planned out so they are always doing something related to their program or contributing to their health and wellness.
