residential-treatment-services-of-alamanceThe Basics

Residential Treatment Services of Alamance provides substance abuse and mental health treatment to those in North Carolina, with preference given to residents of Caswell and Alamance counties. The facilities are located in Burlington, a small city in the north-central region of the state. RTSA was founded in 1971 to serve residents struggling with alcoholism. Its primary substance abuse treatment center is a detox and residential facility for men on Hall Avenue. It also operates long-term housing for women who have a year of sobriety on Mebane Street.

Accommodations and Food

Men reside in a brick residence on a leafy block of Hall Avenue in Burlington. The residence has eight detox beds and 17 beds for long-term treatment.

All clients have roommates, and everyone rotates through chore assignments. A cook prepares standard American fare meals. The traditional decorated house contains exercise equipment but clients can also go for scenic walks in the area.

Treatment and Staff

Most men stay at the residence for six to 12 months. They participate in group therapy daily and have individual therapy as-needed. Treatment groups use CBT among other evidence-based modalities to help residents build coping skills, handle triggers and set boundaries. The treatment team, which consists of CADCs, also encourages men to work the 12 steps while in treatment. Twelve-step meetings are held in the house several times a week, and clients can also attend nearby meetings in the community.

As residents progress through treatment, they take on additional responsibilities such as job searching and pursuing educational goals. They can also earn privileges, including passes to visit their families. RTSA provides each client with extensive case-management services to help them locate vocational training and coordinate medical care. Clients with co-occurring disorders are referred to a nearby mental health clinic for dual-diagnosis support.

While treatment is designed to move men through progressive phases over the course of one year, men in need of additional support can apply to extend their stay at the residence.

Extras

RTSA owns and operates Trollingers Treasures, a popular thrift store in Burlington where clients can work to learn job skills.

In Summary

For over 40 years, Residential Treatment Services of Alamance has been providing compassionate long-term treatment to the residents of north-central North Carolina. Its Hall Avenue facility offers long-term support to men in recovery, ensuring that they develop self-care and interpersonal skills and learn how to set and achieve meaningful educational and vocational goals.
