The Basics
A CARF-accredited facility based in Centreville, Michigan, Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of Saint Joseph County offers substance abuse treatment and dual diagnosis care on an outpatient basis. The facility is part of Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health (SWMBH) and is funded in part by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Treatment and Staff
A client’s journey at Community Mental Health begins with an initial assessment wherein a treatment plan is made. There is no detox offered though clients in need can be referred to an accommodating facility during their initial intake evaluation. The most comprehensive program offered is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which consists of three LADC-led, three-hour sessions of group therapy a week and individual sessions on an as-needed basis. The program utilizes evidence-based treatment with a focus on Motivational Interviewing (MI) and individual sessions are specifically CBT-oriented. Twelve-step recovery is encouraged and clients are referred to local AA/NA meetings but it is not an essential component of the program. During their time in treatment, clients participate in sessions with a particular focus, such as a family program, marriage therapy, relapse prevention and case management.
Community Mental Health’s IOP is an eight-week program, following which, clients typically step-down to one or two groups a week for four weeks, followed by an aftercare program that consists of one weekly individual session and group therapy on an as-needed basis.
Clients in need of dual diagnosis support receive comprehensive mental health services, including assessments, individual counseling, assertive community treatment (ACT), crisis intervention and case management. There are two on-staff psychiatrists who oversee the program and also provide medication management.
In Summary
Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of Saint Joseph County offers a solid, comprehensive IOP with a complimentary program of dual diagnosis care. Clients can expect a modern recovery experience at a facility with a vast array of resources.
