The Basics
Carolina House-Raleigh is a multi-facility behavioral health program providing outpatient care for those suffering from food addiction, eating disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. With branches in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina, clients have the option to choose the facility that best fits their individual recovery needs. Carolina House offers treatment at both the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels.
As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, Carolina House-Raleigh is just one of many behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
The programs at Carolina House are tailored specifically for those who are struggling with eating disorders and food issues, but the treatment can integrate methods that address a variety of co-occurring disorders including substance abuse and mental health. There are two gender-specific IOPs available, both programs comprised of the same basic components, however each program focuses on the different challenges men and women face and how those issues contribute to their addiction and their recovery. Those enrolled in the IOP attend three and a half hours of treatment per day, with sessions scheduled both mornings and evenings.
The PHP also provides gender-specific programs and is more intensive than the IOP. Clients typically attend group therapy four or five times per day, individual therapy once or twice per week and one weekly family therapy session.
Treatment consists of DBT-based groups and one-on-one sessions, 12-step meetings, family therapy and medication management. Some of the topics covered in group sessions include: addiction education, spirituality, relapse prevention, nutrition care, interpersonal process group, 12-step methodology, body image and more. The length of the IOP and the PHP may last anywhere from 30 to 60 days depending on the severity of the case.
The staff at CHR consists of MSWs, LCSWs, LPCs, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associates (LCASAs) and Masters in Public Health (MPHs).
Extras
In addition to outpatient treatment programs, Carolina House also offers residential treatment for a variety of disorders. This program is exclusively for clients suffering from eating disorders and need an intensive and structured treatment program. Accommodations for the program are held in a 16-bed farmhouse in rural Durham and the treatment incorporates evidence-based and holistic therapies.
In Summary
The treatment programs at Carolina House are solid choices for those seeking treatment for any variety of mental health disorder co-occurring with an eating disorder. Carolina House offers specialized tracks for both men and women at the IOP and the PHP levels, and integrates numerous different treatment types and therapies to ensure the client receives a well-rounded approach to recovery.
