The Basics
For over 25 years, Cedar Crest Hospital has been providing residential substance abuse treatment in Belton, a small city in central Texas. In the last two years, it has also begun offering outpatient treatment at the Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care. The Cedar Crest Hospital has recently joined the Acadia provider network, which operates a number of treatment facilities throughout the United State and United Kingdom. The residential program also has a detox unit and dedicated tracks for adolescents and military veterans.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside on Cedar Crest’s 30-acre campus which features walking trials, picnic areas and a swimming pool. Men and women are housed in separate areas of the residential treatment cottage, which has colorful, traditional décor. The cottage contains recreational areas for TV and games as well as a fully equipped modern gym. All residents have roommates.
Cedar Crest has a cafeteria where residents dine communally. The cafeteria staff can accommodate food allergies and preferences. Clients may not bring cell phones or computers into treatment, but unit phones are available for calls home.
Treatment and Staff
Clients in need of detox stay in the detox unit for three to seven days upon arrival. Most clients complete their treatment plan within 28 days.
Residents begin each day with reflection time and chores and then have a full day of group and individual therapy. In the evenings they complete treatment homework and attend on-site 12-step meetings.
The treatment team at Cedar Crest includes physicians, nurses and Master’s-level therapists such as LPCs, MSWs and MFTs. Most therapists are dually-certified as LCDC addiction counselors. Therapy groups uses solutions-focused modalities—such as CBT—and the 12-step framework. All clients have access to the psychiatrists and nursing staff in the hospital’s behavioral health department for comprehensive dual diagnosis support.
Adolescents attend school on-site through a partnership with a University of Texas charter school. Military clients have access to additional treatments for PTSD and cognitive injury.
Extras
Cedar Crest is a “locked facility,” meaning residents cannot leave campus while in treatment. Family members are invited to visit, however. Clients and their loved ones can also attend family therapy. For aftercare, clients can enroll in Cedar Crest’s outpatient programs or attend one-on-one counseling in its behavioral health outpatient clinic in nearby Killeen, Texas.
In Summary
Cedar Crest Hospital offers detox and residential treatment on its campus in Belton, Texas. Clients have access to a comprehensive treatment team of physicians, therapists and counselors, all highly experienced in dual-diagnosis support. With additional tracks for military veterans and adolescents, Cedar Crest is able to provide treatment tailored to each client’s history and mental health condition.
