Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, the The Mustard Seed Inn, provides long-term transitional housing and substance abuse treatment services for homeless men and women. Accommodations and Food
The Mustard Seed Inn accommodates 73 residents inside a three-story gray building that once was a hotel. The Inn includes a large adjacent gated parking lot, and is located in close proximity to many local businesses. Clients are lodged dorm-style in gender-specific rooms, with up to five people per room. Rooms include bunk or twin beds, dressers and plastic bins used for storage.
Clients are provided with three meals a day, cafeteria-style. Amenities are sparse, but clients are encouraged to utilize resources in the local community.
Rules and Regulations
Clients in need of immediate shelter are sent to another WestCare operated facility, Turning Point, which is in close proximity to The Mustard Seed Inn. Often, clients stay there and undergo detox, and receive counseling services so that they can transition into the Mustard Seed program. The length of stay at Turning Point is 30 days. During that time, staff provides health and human service referrals located in the local area, so that clients can find facilities, which offer clothing, showers and food. During their stay, clients receive individual therapy and are encouraged to attend local 12-step meetings.
Afterwards, clients transition into the Mustard Seed Inn program, where they can stay at the facility for up to 24 months. At the Mustard Seed Inn, an evidence-based protocol is used during treatment, which includes CBT-based group and individual therapy and case management. Group topics include relapse prevention, trauma, substance abuse education, relationship issues, behavioral management, coping skills and life skills.
