West Palm Beach FloridaThe Basics

The iKare Treatment Center was established in 2014 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Its substance abuse treatment services include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and basic outpatient care. There are specialized treatment tracks for those who prefer a faith-based approach as well as a traditional 12-step approach and even a special couples’ program. Another unique aspect of iKare is that the programs also provide housing at local sober living residences.

Accommodations and Food

The sober living home associated with the iKare Treatment Center’s is a simple house with basic amenities, which accepts a maximum of about 15 clients at a time. Clients share gender-specific living quarters two per room and are assigned basic cleaning responsibilities to help care for the house. Each day clients are transferred to the nearby clinical facility for treatment. Clients are expected to pay for their own food—to the tune of a $50 per average weekly Walmart trip. They are also responsible for cooking for themselves in assigned pairs. Usually each set of roommates takes turns cooking for the house one night each week.

Treatment and Staff

The iKare PHP lasts between two weeks and a month, entails treatment from nine am to two pm, five days a week. Participants have access to different structured therapeutic activities after attending daily group sessions and their weekly individual session. These include exercise, guided meditation or life skills training. Sundays also allow clients to attend church services, if they so choose, while off-site AA/NA meetings are accessible daily.

IOP allows clients to continue with treatment while still living at the sober house or moving back home. Those in IOP are required to attend group sessions at the facility at least three days a week and complete at least nine hours of group therapy. Clients are also required to attend an individual session with a licensed therapist, and are also able to meet with a board-certified psychiatrist if they choose. Although IOP only requires patients to attend nine hours of group therapy, they strongly recommend that patients attend as many groups as possible. The IOP program typically lasts anywhere from three to six months depending on the person.

The iKare couples’ IOP option is for partners who both face substance abuse issues. It provides nine hours of group therapy per week as well as a weekly individual session with a therapist and a bi-weekly couple’s session.

The center employs a number of case managers and CADCs, a psychologist who is an addiction specialist and a full clinical staff. Support for those with co-occurring mental health issues is provided. Specialized therapy and medication management are available to address anxiety, depression, bipolar and trauma recovery.

Extras

Trips to the beach, gym-time, movie screenings, bowling tournaments and zoo visits are just some of the recreational options. Weekend activities permit for lengthier excursions to further locations but, iKare sends counselors to chaperone and maintains some restrictions in place.

In Summary

While this is a relatively new rehab, iKare Treatment Center’s services are already well-established. The PHP with a sober living component iKare offers are comparable to the level of care found in a residential treatment program. What’s more, clients do have the choice whether they want to live at home during treatment—even during the most intensive phase. It is also worth noting that iKare accepts most types of insurance and depending on clients’ financial situation, is open to negotiating lower prices.
