The Basics
A non-profit, 501 © (3) corporation, The Lantern is a sober living facility for men based in Cleveland, Ohio. While sober living environments often vary in level of structure, The Lantern provides a busy day of recovery related activities for residents and aids in the transition to finding full-time employment and permanent housing.
Accommodations and Amenities
Located in the southwestern portion of the city, The Lantern typically houses between 14 and 18 clients at a time, though construction is being done to expand the facility. Clients can expect close quarters in the residence, with rooms that feature bunk beds and as many as six to a room at a time and shared bathrooms in the hallways.
Breakfast is generally continental style, with a hot lunch and dinner provided every day. Clients taking turns cooking for each other and pitching in with kitchen duties. On the weekends, clients tend to take care of their own meals but can utilize the kitchen and resources provided.
Rules and Regulations
Given that most of The Lantern’s clients come to their doors from an inpatient rehab facility, there is no detox provided, though, when a need arises during an initial intake assessment, The Lantern can refer those in need to an accommodating facility. As mentioned, a typical day at The Lantern is highly structured and potential clients can expect a heavy emphasis on 12-step recovery. Days begin at 7 am, with a morning 12-step meeting and meditation session. After a break for breakfast, clients spend the day attending group therapy, led by The Lantern’s staff of LADCs. In the evenings, clients attend another 12-step meeting. As a client shows progress during their time in residence, The Lantern assists in finding employment and stable housing. Typically, clients in this phase attend morning meetings and mediation session and then spend the day job hunting or attending work. While there is no official aftercare program, clients are able to extend their program beyond the typical 90-day stay and can rest assured that the facility will continue to serve as a resource long after their time in residence is over.
Extras
Clients should also expect to be immersed in a social sobriety community with frequent field trip and activities, including bowling and softball. Believing in strengthening the bonds between the family and the client in recovery, The Lantern also sponsors a bi-monthly off-site family support meeting for relatives of those in residence at a local church.
In Summary
The ever-expanding Lantern facility offers a stable, supportive sober living environment with an emphasis on 12-step recovery and community. Clients can expect close quarters and a home environment that places a priority on personal responsibility and taking the next steps in one’s recovery journey towards stable employment and housing.
