Community Mercy ReachThe Basics

Community Mercy REACH is the outpatient substance abuse program of the Mercy Health network in Clark and Champaign counties in central Ohio. Mercy Health’s mission is to provide “safe, effective, patient/resident-centered, timely and cost efficient care and education to meet the health needs of all people, especially the poor and underserved.” REACH has been in operation since 1995 and offers standard outpatient treatment at its Urbana location and standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at its Springfield location.

Treatment and Staff

After an assessment, clients are placed on either the standard or IOP track. Standard outpatient clients attend group therapy once or twice a week. IOP clients attend group therapy three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Clients on both tracks have individual therapy as-needed, usually once a week or once every two weeks.

The duration of standard outpatient treatment is 30, 60 or 120 days. IOP clients start with a 30-day commitment, after which the treatment team evaluates their progress and makes further recommendations. IOP clients often step down to standard outpatient as their recovery progresses.

Therapy groups don’t exceed 10 participants and are led by Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors, including LCDCs. Therapy uses CBT and clients are encouraged to attend AA or NA meetings weekly.

The treatment team addresses co-occurring disorders in therapy, but clients in need of extensive dual diagnosis support are referred to Mercy Health’s mental health department for therapy and medication for their mental health diagnosis.

Extras

For aftercare, clients are encouraged to attend bi-weekly one-on-one counseling sessions for continued support.

In Summary

Community Mercy REACH provides low-cost outpatient treatment for the residents of central Ohio. With two treatment tracks and individual counseling options for aftercare, Community Mercy REACH might be an especially effective option for clients open to receiving long-term support and guidance on integrating recovery into their daily lives.
