Boston MassachusettsThe Basics

New Hope Transitional Support through the Bay Cove Human Services organization is a co-ed residential treatment facility that offers short term care for men and women struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Located in South Boston, this facility provides programming that is individualized and offers group and individual therapy which employ evidence-based treatment methods and the 12-step philosophy.

Accommodations and Food

The New Hope residential facility is a three-story brick building on a former Naval Air base that recently underwent extensive renovations. The 60-bed facility has 30 bedrooms with the clients sharing rooms, each with private bathrooms. Men and women are separated on different sides of the building. The interior includes several large living rooms and lounges, a dining room and kitchen with new appliances.

The on-site kitchen staff prepares home-style meals for all the clients three times a day. The food is nutritious and hearty, with snacks available as well.

Treatment and Staff

The gender-specific programs at New Hope are designed to suit to each client’s needs and include up to five therapeutic groups daily and an off-site AA meeting every night. For the most part these 30-day programs are considered an in-between stop before either moving back home or, if needed, entering into a longer-term residential facility. Clients work closely with their caseworkers on personal health and communication skills, and mending family relationships.

The women’s program is referred to as Sisters in Sobriety, and provides trauma informed treatment, while the men’s is known as Compass Group, which employs the Jungian approach. Both programs offer psychoeducation, coping skills and relapse prevention techniques. These programs focus on best practice methods of treatment with group numbers being about eight clients to one counselor.  There are also groups that focus on PSTD, dual diagnosis, and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) along with developing parenting and anger management skills.

The medical and clinical team at New Hope that offers 24 hour a day care. Staff includes Master’s-level LCSWs, RN’s and psychologists, all of whom continue their training to provide the best in comprehensive care.

Extras

The clients can watch TV at specified times in between treatment programming, and participate in a number of recreational activities on site, like basketball, softball and horseshoes, as well as participate in art contests and game nights, and facility-wide barbeques.

During their treatment programs each client is working on an aftercare plan, which some times leads to a sober living facility and some to outpatient care.

In Summary

The programs of New Hope aim to provide just that—New Hope for each client’s future for themselves and loved ones. This facility wants to empower their clientele and give them the confidence to return to their communities free of the stigma that often can follow those who struggle with addictions. It does just that by giving each individual a caring place that offers support even after the clients leave.
