The Basics
Located along the Florida coast, near Boca Raton in Delray and Deerfield Beach, Freedom House provides gender-specific sober living for men and women. Residents reside in spacious town homes that are located in close proximity to the beach, shopping malls and 12-step meetings.
Accommodations and Amenities
Freedom House has a 30-bed capacity, and includes two male-only residences in Deerfield and Delray, as well as a female-only residence in Deerfield. The Deerfield locations are Mediterranean-style town homes, and the Delray residence is a spacious gray-shingled ranch house. Clients are paired in comfortable furnished double-occupancy rooms, which include twin beds topped with comforters, nightstands, lamps and dressers. Each house includes a spacious living room furnished with couches, coffee tables, an entertainment center and television.
Residents are responsible for their own groceries, and meals are prepared in fully equipped kitchens, which have dishwashers. Amenities include cable TV, Wi-Fi, transportation (at additional cost) laundry rooms, fresh linens and cleaning supplies. Staff lives on the premises, and provides around the clock supervision.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to arrival, residents must have a minimum of 30 days of verified sobriety. Many clients have successfully graduated from primary care at a residential treatment facility. Freedom House requires a six-month minimum length of stay. Clients who revoke on their commitment will lose their last week of rent.
Requirements include completing all aftercare protocols, if applicable. This includes attending an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or outpatient program, seeing a therapist and (if applicable) maintaining medication management with a psychiatrist. Residents must attend daily 12-step meetings, be at the weekly house meetings, obtain a home group, get a service commitment and work the steps with a sponsor. Additionally, there is a mandatory, monthly house meeting for the entire Freedom House community.
Other rules include obtaining a job, enrolling in school or volunteering. Any of these activities must be done on a full time basis. Performance of household chores is also mandated. The curfew is determined, based on a resident’s level of progress but typically newcomers must adhere to a 10 pm curfew from Sundays to Thursdays, and a midnight curfew Fridays and Saturdays. Senior residents have a little more leeway, with an 11 pm curfew Sundays through Thursdays, and an one am curfew Fridays and Saturdays. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. At Freedom House, residents who relapse are immediately evacuated from the premises.
Extras
Other services include therapist referrals, and assisting in correspondence with families and the criminal justice system. Freedom House also has a clubhouse where residents participate in community activities.
In Summary
For residents looking for affordable, yet spacious 12-step based sober living by the beach, Freedom House may be the perfect match. The town homes are truly gorgeous, and the ranch style house for men is very picturesque. Freedom House is often booked, so potential clients are encouraged to inquire ahead, reserve a bed and be put on the waiting list.
