Triangle HouseThe Basics

Founded in 1982 in the Boston suburb of Rockland, Massachusetts by Nancy Dyment-Travers, Triangle House provides sober living for recovering female alcoholics and addicts. Dyment-Travers has over 30 years of recovery, and believes that by utilizing the 12 steps, many women can obtain lifelong recovery from chemical substances.

Accommodations and Amenities

Triangle House is a white Victorian style home complete with turrets, and a corner tower. The exterior includes a picturesque garden, which has trees, grass, a park bench, a birdbath and colorful flowers. The house accommodates ten women on the second and third floors of the house. There are eight fully furnished private rooms, and one double-occupancy room.

The house has a kitchen and a country style dining table and chairs are in a corner of the sitting area. Clients are responsible for their own meals, which are prepared in a fully equipped kitchen. Amenities include all utilities, Wi-Fi, a landline with local phone service, ample off-street parking and laundry facilities. Dyment-Travers lives on the first floor of the house, and is the live-in residential manager.

Rules and Regulations

Potential clients must have already undergone detox before moving in. Dyment-Travers interviews applicants in person, to determine if Triangle House is a good fit. Potential clients must demonstrate a strong willingness to work a 12-step program. During the first 30 days, residents must attend 30 AA/NA meetings in 30 days. They must get a sponsor and maintain an active relationship with them. Additionally, those in need of more supportive services must attend an outpatient program or individual counseling.

Clients must also look for work, attend school or perform community service. Other requirements include attending the house meeting, performing household chores and working the steps. After that time, residents must attend between three and five 12-step meetings a week, depending on their work schedule. Additionally, they must maintain a productive lifestyle conducive to recovery. No overnight passes or visitors are allowed. At Triangle House, a zero tolerance policy is enforced. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately.

Extras

Triangle House is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Sober Housing (MASH), which stresses high standard from its affiliates.

In Summary

Former residents of Triangle House refer to Dyment-Travers as their “angel.” For women who seek a comprehensive 12-step based house that comes with a woman who has decades of recovery experience, and who cares very much about her residents, look no further. The only downside is that Triangle House is often full, so those who are interested are encouraged to join the waiting list.
