The Basics
Based out of Plainville, Connecticut, Wheeler Clinic is an expansive non-profit that provides a number of healthcare services to individuals and families. Among its programs are outpatient treatment programs for addiction and other behavioral health issues for adults and adolescents. All plans are individualized and offer support for co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
After the initial intake, clients continue onto a program designed to fit their specific needs. Treatment works within the structure of individual, gender-specific group and family therapy using evidence-based methods. The adolescent program focuses on topics more suited to younger clients and primarily uses trauma-focused CBT and DBT. The adult track relies more on Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) in addition to CBT. Though 12-step participation is not a requirement, clients are encouraged to attend off-site meetings if they wish. Medication management and medication-assisted treatment are also available. Clients can seek treatment through an appointment or on a walk-in basis.
Staff is expansive and includes LACs, LCSWs, MFTs, RNs, psychiatrists and Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional services include gambling programs that have a similar structure as the chemical dependency programs. HelpLine, a telephone counseling service that is available 24 hours a day, allows clients to call in with medical and psychiatric emergencies. Other programs include the Latino Outreach, which provides therapy to Spanish-speaking clients, an older adults substance abuse track for clients 60 years and older, as well as case management, crisis intervention and early intervention services. For an additional cost, the facility also offers biofeedback and neurofeedback for ADHD and stress-related disorders.
A number of additional primary healthcare services are available as well.
In Summary
In all, Wheeler Clinic is a comprehensive organization with several locations throughout Connecticut. Each program is individualized and takes a mostly scientific approach, with treatment available for adolescents and adults alike. While prices may vary depending on insurance, Wheeler Clinic offers solid treatment and remains a valuable resource for those in the area.
