SSLThe Basics

Southwest Sober Living is an upscale sober living hideaway for men located in the serene Catalina Foothills region of Tucson, Arizona. Their mission is to provide men with a supportive, family-style environment while they focus on their recovery and take steps back into society. Southwest Sober Living is a 15-minute drive from the center of Tucson and the University of Arizona.

Accommodations and Amenities

The spacious facility is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood and includes a main house and a guest casita. The house includes seven bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two fully equipped kitchens that have granite countertops and state-of-the-art appliances. Southwest Sober Living usually has between nine and 10 residents at a time paired off in the bedrooms. Once in a while, depending on availability and seniority, a resident gets a private room. Extra bedrooms are reserved for live-in house managers.

The kitchen is stocked with pasta, ramen, cereals, coffee and other basic staples. Residents purchase additional foods such as meats and dairy. The men take turns preparing and cooking for the entire household. Typically, they eat family-style in the dining room. Amenities include Wi-Fi, nine HDTV flat-screen TVs, an outdoor barbeque and free phone service.

Rules and Regulations

Southwest Sober Living asks for a minimum three-month stay, though most residents stay longer. Curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays and midnight on the weekends. Southwest Sober Living uses random drug and alcohol testing to monitor compliance.

Residents must attend daily in-house 12-step meetings. Working the Southwest Sober Living program means remaining abstinent from drugs and alcohol, maintaining a 12-step program and attending required meetings. Residents are expected to pitch in with house responsibilities and respect the house’s curfew.

Extras

The live-in house managers are on site around the clock and act as temporary sponsors, providing support to the residents. Additional services include life coaching, behavior modification, goal planning, academic counseling, sober companions and referrals to outside therapists. The house has a gym, ping pong table, hot tub and stationary bikes.

Sabino Recovery, Southwest Sober Living’s outpatient substance abuse treatment facility, launches in December 2015.

In Summary

Southwest Sober Living is a solid choice for a just-out-of-serious-treatment individual who wants to participate actively in his recovery. The house touts the health and mental benefits of exercise so it may also suit a client with an interest in physical fitness.
