The Basics

Founded in 2014 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Alpha Healing Center provides outpatient detox and substance abuse treatment services, as well as dual diagnosis support. Their mission is to utilize evidence-based modalities, along with holistic therapies in the treatment of addiction.

Treatment and Staff

New clients undergo lengthy assessments with an intake counselor, and receive individualized treatment plans. Ambulatory detox is provided for clients suffering from opioid withdrawal. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with buprenorphine is used and clients are medically supervised in an outpatient setting.

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a 25-hour weekly track, usually five hours a day, Mondays through Fridays, while the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a nine-hour weekly program. PHP and IOP are typically 30 days in length. Weekly treatment includes case management, group and individual therapy.

At Alpha Healing Center, evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT and emotionally focused therapy are used. Group topics include psychoeducational learning about alcohol abuse and drug addiction, the 12 steps, relapse prevention, coping skills, stress reduction approaches, interpersonal and recovery processes, cognitive-behavior restructuring and emotional regulation techniques. Groups range in size, between ten and 15 clients per session.

A psychiatrist is available to see clients that require medication for co-occurring disorders. The staff includes Dr. Galina Mindlin, who is a Master’s-level medical director, certified in psychiatry and addiction, and holds a Ph.D in neuroscience. The other four team members include two Master’s-level CADCs, a Master’s-level LCSWs and a Master’s-level professional of human resources.

Extras

Holistic therapies are also offered and include yoga, experiential therapy, biofeedback, brain music therapy (BMT), nutrition, massage and meditation. Familial involvement is encouraged, and a family program is offered. Other wellness classes that are offered include HIV awareness, basic life skills and smoking cessation.

Aftercare includes individual and group therapy, per client’s needs. Referrals to sober livings and recovery support groups, including 12-step meetings, are provided.

Alpha Healing Center is in the process of opening up an inpatient drug rehab in Gujarat, India.
