Cranstoun OutpatientThe Basics

Cranstoun is a drug and alcohol treatment organization based in London, UK. Orgininally founded in 1969 by Annie and Michael Dixon, Cranstoun offers a variety of residential and outpatient options for substance abuse treatment. Cranstoun offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and aftercare outpatient services that incorporate holistic methods with the 12 steps. Programs are offered to men and women who are over the age of 18 and struggle with addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

There are several different locations and agencies that work through Cranstoun, and over the years partnerships have grown exponentially. The outpatient programs are typically offered starting as an IOP that is three days a week for about four months. These programs include group and individual therapy, medication managementart or music therapy, gender-specific counseling and support groups, like AA, NA or Celebrate Recovery.

Some of the outpatient facilities that work with Cranstoun offer additional services, like a needle exchange and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Suboxone or Methadone. Others provide alternative treatment options, like acupuncture and meditation practices. Regardless of where clients opt to receive treatment, they need to be referred to the program from either the court system, housing authority or their doctor. There are a variety of therapy methods used at the Cranstoun facilities like CBT, Stages of Change Model, relapse prevention and psychosocial groups.

There are many people on the clinical side of Cranstoun, including a multi-disciplinary team of medical doctors and nurses, psychiatrists, caseworkers, social workers, and therapists who specialize in addiction and recovery.

Extras

In addition to drug and alcohol counseling and treatment, there is a focus on domestic violence prevention, and a general over view of personal health, HIV education and recovery resources. An aftercare program is offered to all clients who have completed the IOP for up to one year.

In Summary

Cranstoun has a unique perspective on addiction which is based on education and not shaming their clientele. There are so many different treatment options in the outpatient programs and places for one to receive help through this facility; it is a gift to those who are seeking help in the greater London area.
