The Basics
Located in San Diego, California, Braveheart Sober Living provides safe and structured sober living to a small group of men. Their mission is to provide assistance, structure and tools so that clients can make a smooth transition back into society.
Accommodations and Amenities
Braveheart Sober Living is a ranch-style house located on a quiet residential neighborhood. Palm trees and pristine landscaping decorate the exterior. The house has a six-bed capacity. While clients are typically paired in comfortably furnished rooms, a few singles are available. A double room includes twin beds with headboards, a desk or table, desk lamp, TV and ample storage space. Rooms have a cozy, family-style quality.
The living room, which is adjacent to a fully equipped kitchen, includes comfortable sofas, a flat screen TV propped on an entertainment center, a bookshelf crammed with books, a fireplace and a framed print of the 12 steps. A sliding glass door leads out to an outdoor covered garden patio, furnished with comfortable patio chairs and a barbecue grill.
Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Amenities include cable TV, laundry, Wi-Fi, dishwasher, air conditioning, parking, landline phone and Wi-Fi. A house manager lives on the premises.
Rules and Regulations
Potential clients are interviewed on a case-by-case basis, and usually have undergone 30 days of residential treatment. Newly arrived clients must attend 90 12-step meetings in 90 days, and provide proof of attendance by having a card signed by the meeting’s secretary. Participation in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and group therapy also counts towards the weekly meeting quota. After 90 days, clients must attend a minimum of three weekly 12-step meetings.
Other requirements include performing household chores and being at the house meeting. Residents must do their laundry once per week, and make sure that their rooms are kept tidy and clean. Random bed checks are conducted and the house is checked on a weekly basis.
At Braveheart Sober Living, a zero tolerance policy is enforced. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted, and residents who relapse must leave the premises immediately, to ensure the safety of the entire household.
