The Basics
Porter Starke Services is a non-profit community health facility offering a range of mental and behavioral health services, including substance abuse treatment programs for adolescents and adults. With three different locations in the state of Indiana, clients have access to a network of care including outpatient treatment at the Porter Starke Adult Day Program and Porter Starke Life House, a co-ed residential treatment program.
Food and Accommodations
Clients are accommodated in a home-like environment, complete with spacious front and backyards. Clients sleep in gender-specific double-occupancy rooms and share two bathrooms. Common areas include a living room with cable TV, a fully-equipped kitchen, a small dining room and laundry facilities with a washer and dryer. There is a pleasant deck outside with seating as well as a weight and exercise room. Meals are provided three times a day.
Treatment and Staff
The residential treatment program is facilitated by a full staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Clients may remain in treatment for up to two years while they actively work on their recovery and develop the skills required to live independently.
Treatment involves a full day of programming that consists of group therapy, vocational training and addiction education. Individual and family therapy sessions can also be scheduled depending on the needs of each client and their individualized treatment plan.
Seminars are also available that teach independent living skills to prepare residents for when they complete treatment as well as medication management and other psychiatric services if needed. The 12-steps are not integrated into the treatment program, however clients are strongly encouraged to attend local chapter meetings when they are not in treatment, at work or attending school.
The staff at Porter Starke Life House consists of psychiatrists, LCSWs, LCACs, CADACs and LPCs.
Extras
In addition to a comprehensive residential program, Porter Starke also offers outpatient treatment and several other community-oriented services and programs. Children and adolescents may receive counseling as well as attend group therapy for addiction, depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, bipolar disorder, ADHD and PTSD.
Additionally, group workshops are available to improve communication in a business setting as is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Experiential Therapy sessions are also available for clinical staff, educators, clergy, families and organizations seeking a healing environment.
In Summary
The Porter Starke Life House residential program is a solid option for men and women in need of 24-hour individualized care using evidence-based traditional therapy. Through group, family and individual therapy, vocational training and additional therapies if needed, clients are given the best possible chance at recovery and a solid foundation for independent living and a sober life.
