Managed Care Center

The Basics

Based out of Lubbock, Texas, Managed Care Center is a private non-profit organization providing residential and outpatient treatment for chemical dependency and mental health disorders. The residential facilities provide gender-specific housing and case management services, as well as detox services. A number of community-oriented programs are also available to area residents including prevention programs and employer services.

Accommodations and Food 

The residential home has a total 53 beds; 23 for men and 30 for women. Clients share double- or triple-occupancy bedrooms with same-gender residents. The facility has several common areas though men and women are generally kept separate during all phases of treatment. Managed Care Center provides three meals a day served cafeteria style and prepared to be both hearty and nutritious. Accommodations for restricted diets can be made if clients provide a doctor’s note.

Treatment and Staff 

Both the residential and outpatient programs combine individual and gender-specific group therapy as well as 12-step principles and meetings. Though the programs for men and women mirror each other, the women’s program offers support specific to young mothers and those who are pregnant, including parenting classes. Life skills training and family therapy are available in both programs when necessary. Over time, clients earn weekend passes to visit friends and family. Time in the schedule is allotted for recreation.

Outpatient treatment is available in three separate tracks for men, women and adolescents. These programs offer a more flexible attendance schedule than the residential track but also combine individual counseling at least once every two weeks and evening groups Monday through Thursday. The adolescent program schedules weekly one-on-one therapy and a minimum of two groups a week.

A separate track for those with co-occurring disorders is also offered on an outpatient basis. Though therapy methods are largely the same, a greater emphasis is put on psychiatric support, case management and home visits.

Staff consists of  a LCDCs, LPCs and house managers.

Extras

Managed Care Center also offers community services including an HIV early prevention, alcohol awareness, tobacco cessation and aftercare—often used as a step down program following completion of the residential or outpatient tracks. The organization also works with local schools providing addiction education seminars and employers to help employees obtain outside counseling.

In Summary

The continuum of care provided by Managed Care Center is geared towards helping the local community recover from addiction, mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders. With separate tracks for men, women and adolescents, treatment combines traditional therapeutic methods with 12-step meetings and ongoing support following completion of the inpatient and outpatient tracks.
